Am watching Prince Of Persia. I am glad I bought it as a birthday present for my boyfriend as he loved it in the theater. Me, I don't care for it. I have a problem with what the dagger can do. For me it just isn't believable in their world. Maybe another reason is that I never did care for movies about Arabian knights and so forth.
PQ and AQ is awesome as is the standard with Disney blus. So if you like the movie do not hesitate to pick it up for yourself.

The dagger is based on a video game idea, of course it's fantastic. I would consider it a hole in the movie but the whole movie is centered around it so I'm fine with it.

^^^ Is that the new American version? It's in my queue... The original German film is wicked!

Nightmare Before Christmas” (parents’ copy).

For whatever reason, I never really got into this that well as a kid.

These days, however, I’ve grown to appreciate it better. The story’s quite cute and imaginative, and the characters are distinctive. It is very well-crafted, with superb animation quality, a hugely imaginative environment, decent voice-acting, and some rather catchy songs. The movie has many nuances in the humor, the settings, dialogue, and everything else that establishes it as something wicked, but without being overly graphic or disturbing.

4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4/5, film: 4.5/5)

The Blu-Ray looked and sounded darn near perfect!

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4.5/5

I will own it!

The Blu-Ray also contained a short film called “Frankenweenie,” which if I’m not mistaken is Tim Burton’s directorial debut. It turned out to be surprisingly amusing and well-made; it’s a short simple story, rather close to the original Frankenstein story. Despite the low production quality, the photography is cool (glorious black-and-white!), and most of the imagery is great (parts of it actually did remind me of other Tim Burton movies, like “Sleepy Hollow,” “Batman Returns,” “Beetlejuice,” etc, leading me to wonder if this short film provided fodder for all his other work…).

4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4/5, film: 4/5) Another fine reason to get the above BD!

The Twilight Zone: The Movie.”

Much like “Four Rooms” or any number of other short-story themed films, the “TZ” movie uses multiple directors with multiple styles and multiple actors to show multiple experiences. Taking after some classic TZ episodes, the stories are inherently interesting. But I still think the movie’s results are mixed.

Evaluating each story individually, I would have to say the following: the intro and outro with Dan Aykroyd is a little fruity and almost seems out-of-place, but surprisingly he did outright acknowledge that this film is a TV-show inspired film, and thus serves to rib the audience a little. The first full-blown story (the jerkwad who travels through time) is pretty good and pretty well-directed. The second story (the old people playing kick the can) is cute, but seems a little overly-sentimental at times and I don’t think the story was really fully developed. The third one (the boy who rules everything) gets a little weird and crazy, but definitely has its moments, and is excellently directed. The last story (the ever-great airplane one) is awesome.

4/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, stories: 3.5/5, film: 4/5)

Still not sure if I want this on BD, but someday I will own the show!

Next greatest rental: “Purple Rain.”

I can’t say that this movie fully grabbed my attention. The story seemed rather weak to me; it has its moments and it has a certain level of internal conflict, but external conflict didn’t seem to drive a good enough story (much less one with a satisfying conclusion; by the end of this, it felt like “well okay then, I guess the Kid still rocks on…” ). Even the domestic situations didn’t really grab me that well; maybe modern films have spoiled me.

But, it is a well-made film, with plenty of interesting atmospheric sets, good photography, and some interesting editing. Performances (both musical and acting-wise) are great. And yes, the music is interesting.

3/5 (entertainment: 3/5, story: 1/5, film: 4/5)

Frozen:

Honestly, I havent experienced anything like that since Jaws.
This is a real masterpiece of psychological horror.
Now I understand why the reviewer gave it 5/5 for movie quality.
Its so edge of your seat experience that closing eyes is inevitable sometimes.

5/5 (highest recommendation of all movies I have given so far)

No big deal about being lumped with the people who didn't get the timeline of 500 Days of Summer. Don't worry about it.

I've had a little time before the onslaught of releases to rent a few movies. Triangle is pretty high on the list right now. If I don't get to it very soon, then I will for sure once the releases calm down again. It'd be better to watch a movie like that when I'm back to feeling good again anyways.

Touch over-rated but still one of the best action movies of all-time and one of the best movies of 2008.

i really don't understand the hate / dislike of Blow. it's definitely not a mafia movie so i'm not gonna compare it to Brasco or GoodFellas, but it's a damn good movie that gets overlooked so much. one of my personal favorites.

not perfect, but it's still #1 on my list of "Most Depressing Movie Endings", love it
Yea its not mafia but its still comparable because of drugs, kingpin etc.....plus I was comparing Depp's performance in both. Got Em!!

Yea man its a great film and I just saw it for the first time earlier this year. I am gonna buy it also. I may be in the minority but I aint the biggest Cruz fan and to me Franka Potente looked much better in Blow. Got Em!!

The dagger was maybe the best part about the film and what the film was about though. Also its a fantasy film based off a video game so how is it not believable? Just my thoughts. I liked it and was pleasantly surprised by the film. Got Em!!

Awe man Im glad u watched this movie. I absolutely love Purple Rain and have seen it many many times. What kind of music do u listen to? I ask because u said the music in the film was interesting so I am just curious. Yea its more of a musical somewhat based off Prince but I grew up on it and can watch it over and over. Again glad to see u goin through the list. There will be more on there that I think u will love. Got Em!!

Legend of the Guardians - 4.5/5

The animation and the 3D were excellent in this movie. The story isn't the most original, but it was well done. I saw this with the family and we all of loved it. Highly recommended!

Let The Right One In

Director: Tomas Alfredson
Writer: John Ajvide Lindqvist (novel), John Ajvide Lindqvist
Mains: Kåre Hedebrant, Lina Leandersson, and Per Ragnar

Wow simply amazing, at first i thought it was gonna be a horror, scary film but it actually turned into a drama/horror. I thought that the story was amazing and original beyond originality lol.

A Young man faces the difficulties of being bullied in school and standing up for himself. Not only does he have this problem to deal with but he also has a broken family, living with his mother he's faced with many childhood problems by himself. But next door to him is a girl that he shows a special interest to.....

Like i said before i thought the movie was amazing and really worth watching. Keep in mind its more of a dark drama, but worth every penny. Im looking forward to LET ME IN.

Note: The English Voice Over's are Horrible please watch the movie in its regular Swedish language.

Highly Recommended.

The Stepfather -

The review on this site gave it a 1.5, I'd say that's about right.

It was so formulaic it was incredible!
How am I supposed to feel suspense when I know exactly where a movie is going from the very beginning and can tell you what is about to happen at every point in the movie almost?

Answer: I can't.

It reminded me of Disturbia with Shia Lebouf....but not as good.

The review for the original with Terry O'Quinn from Lost got a 4. Too bad my cousin didn't have that one instead.

Rating - 1/5

Robin Hood: Director's Cut.

Theatrical cut was a 9/10, but nearly all of the little problems I had with that version that made it feel sort of clunky were fixed here. 10/10. Absolutely love this film. One of the best of the year.

Yeah, read as much of the thread as you can before you watch it again. It'll help you watch out to see if the theory jives with you or not.

I totally missed this the first time I watched it, but did you pick up on that
[Show spoiler]her entire purpose in approaching Oskar was to find the next Hakan (old dude) to look after her? As we see in the film, Hakan is getting too old for the job and is messing up. He's lost his edge. She needs a new recruit. 60 years ago, she probably recruited Hakan the same way she is now recruiting Oskar. Oskar was specifically targeted because he was a loner, so could drop everything to leave with her, plus he was being bullied so she could get trust with him by showing him how to beat them up --> he is very vulnerable. From that standpoint, the movie is primarily a kind of study of a 101 on Vampire Survival: step 1: find and train a fresh "blood fetch" recruit when your old one starts to suck. Its a love story secondary to that. Hakan and Oskar may be her 49th and 50th "blood-fetch" guys she has recruited in her 500 years or however long she's been a vampire

Becket

Film: 4.5/5
-Henry II during the time when Church was rivaling the throne in England. Awesome awesome film! Can't recommend this enough! 12 oscar nominations should suffice, plus 2 lead actor nominations (as in '84 Amadeus)!
-Incredible character development with juicy themes of religion and politics. Burton and O'Toole are incredible, and the evolution of their relationship throughout the film will keep any viewer glued to their seat

PQ: 4.5/5 (awesome for '64 source)

AQ: 4/5 (I used PCM 2.0...very good for most part, but rare use of surrounds)
