Not sure how $34.99 instead of $29.99 can be considered "the shock of a lifetime".
Saying that about a $5 difference is over the top, to say the least.

And it doesn't "suck for me" it sucks for everyone. That being said it's not as if I won't buy it regardless of the price for release week.

I agree. I don't like paying more for less content, but it's GOT, my favorite show, and it's worth it. It's still a steal considering all of the extras we get and the amazing PQ and AQ. I would still pick it up day 1 even if it was $60.

Don't like the presumed $5 increase at all, especially since I paid $29.99 release week the last two years in a row. But, in the end, I'm hard pressed to find anything that looks better than Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray (so much so that I've been willing to skip its original airings and wait for the Blu-Ray release up until now), so, it is what it is.

What they're doing is awful.

1) Higher Price
2) No more DVDs
3) More episodes crammed on each disc
4) Bonus Content split between multiple retailers (This nonsense doesn't happen in Europe)

Even if it is $34.99 on release day it's better than Boardwalk Empire season 5 which was $39.99 and only 8 episodes.

Which is something I'll never understand. Not picking up Boardwalk's final season until it's much lower.

Its a thousand times better than that. Especially since that set had only one or two extras.

HBO has always been about quality. It's a shame they're changing everything for the worse now.

Thankfully, reviews have said the set's PQ and AQ are just as great and there are still a lot of extras.

There's no more than 3 episodes on a disc. Previous seasons have had discs with that many episodes, so even ignoring the positive reviews, there's not even the slightest reason to be concerned about quality.

With HBO GO becoming more common, and soon to be released for my PS4, I think I will stop buying these seasons and wait for the complete series box. It just makes more sense, not having to worry about slip covers, or a $30-$35 charge every year.

I'm really sad about the DVD's not being included this year. They just made the box feel more complete. Unlike like some people I dont have an deep seeded hatred of DVD. They were a nice little bonus back-up copy of a show I love. Did it really cost too much to include 2 flipper DVD's HBO?

The DVDs didn't bother me, but they were also worthless to me.

$30, $35, $40 - I don't care. Just can't wait to grab this set.

It could be a fun project for someone to go and necro all the relevant ad threads in dead deals. Then we could have a accurate retelling of what these were marked at in years past.

That is a pretty good spread! I used to have Stark and Targaryen for S1, I did not get Greyjoy and ended up getting a Targaryen for Season 3 (made more sense to me since there were a lot more dire wolves in S1 and hardly any dragons until the last moments) and selling my S1 Targaryen.

If you keep the doubles you have all the houses they made available in the US. If Best Buy keeps Martell and/or Tyrell and don't add anything new next year you can always sell one of your S4s and maintain your spread.
