I received my anthology set yesterday and while the transfers are very lackluster, they are still better than their DVD counterparts. Better color in my opinion and of course 1080p resolution. I was hoping for something way better than what I received though. Some fresh 2k scans and some extras/commentaries would have made this set worth it. The Exorcist alone made Warner's enough cash that they could have dumped some in to these transfers.

The gains in detail with the Blu are very modest at this level; in the shot of Regan pretending to bend the spoon at the table with Sharon, they're hardly present at all. The framing's a bit different as well, with the Blu being significantly cropped on the right side; I don't know which is more accurate.

Looking forward to a lossless comparison, should some cap-centric site decide to host one.

I may get The Heretic on Blu-ray, though largely because it comes as part of the more cost-effective Anthology option in upgrading my copy of The Exorcist...
My heart sank when I first saw the screen caps someone posted here for THE HERETIC, but when I checked out my copy it was slightly better. The overall tone is more or less right, but too dark.
The film shouldn't be as soft either. Yes parts of it were film with a defused gauze effect but not as bad as this.
Also, the sound seems to be weak. My original Beta had more bass! There seems to be a high end cut off as well cutting off higher frequencies too.
WB is disgusting.
When I was reviewing DVD way back I was sent the original HARRY POTTER and noticed that the trailer had better color than the actual film. I noticed the bit rate during the film was almost constant, and low. While the bitrate was higher and fluctuated during the trailer. This allowed a wider color palette and brighter picture.
When I was a consulting for A&E for the I.T.C. catalog I sat in on meetings for each release, sometimes with the digital authoring people. I learned that there were actually different "packages" in terms of authoring for companies. This was for DVDs at the time. It broke down into how many menus, sub-menus, options on each menu screen and how much was accessed in terms of features and so forth. Variable bitrate cost more since it would take more time to produce and dictate what size disc t use and how it was encoded.
In my review for HARRY POTTER I posted screen grabs comparing how the movie compared to the same scenes in the trailer along with the bitrate and why it looked the way it did. Well, WB didn't like it since I had called them out and exposed what they had done. I was asked to take down the caps and edited my review. I didn't - so they took me off their list and stopped receiving review copies.

I was worried that Amazon still said it had not shipped last night. Then the doorbell rings and it is at my front door. About an hour later, I get a notice that it has shipped. A little backlogged on their computer systems?

Disappointed with the transfer reviews, but still thinking about picking up the whole set, regardless. I don't own the first (surprisingly) and it's almost as much on its own as the entire set.

How does Dominion look in HD? I know that the picture quality of the DVD was a little rougher than the quality for Exorcist: The Beginning but what about the blu-ray?

Any significant upgrade or is it on par with the picture quality of the Alien 3 blu-ray?

Dominion is the one I'm most interested in.

the Film elements for Dominion did not get a proper polish to begin with, and was transfered to HD Tapes for editing, it got the short end of the stick, so it's really an unfinished film in that sense, and Paul schrader has no intention of ever looking at the film again unless it's to do a proper transfer and colortiming, so whatever the source was for the DVD is whats used for the Blu Ray.

but in terms of Detail it should look a step up, but yes I wish someone would most some screenshots

You know, for all the flack that Shout takes at times -- and rightfully so -- this release is just a total botch on Warner's part. II's transfer and III's audio are just embarrassing IMO. Dominion & The Beginning are fine but these are recent films so they don't get much credit for not screwing those up. And the original showed they can do a fine job when they care about the product...that was not the case with II & III, regrettably.

It wasn't until last year that I finally saw the original, so I can't say it's bad at all. Enjoy.
