I too collect for the look. I prefer it when the artwork is diffrent from the standard bluray as that adds something to getting the steelbook i think, however i will get a steelbook that has the standard artwork if necessary.
I also like the way they all look on my shelf as opposed to all those blue cases. |

They're like special hardcover editions of favorite books. Considering how cheap and unappealing standard blu-ray cases can be (particularly eco cases), steelbooks often look very classy and upscale on the shelf.

For the artwork mainly.
But only if a film I love has a steelbook available. As I'm not looking to make a profit on them sometime in the future, all mine have been opened. But they all have plastic slipcovers as well, so they are all still in perfect condition. If you don't open the ones you have though, that's crazy. |

I have digitized quite a bit of my 2D BD films but for titles where I need to keep an actual 3D and/or 4K disc on my shelf, better for me to go with a nice case to house the disc(s) rather than the cheapy standard Elite cases they come in.

I'd also like to point out that I'll only get steelbooks for the films I love if they have different and more visually interesting artwork than the amaray versions.
If the artwork on upcoming SBs is the same as their amaray counterparts, then I'll go for the amaray. It's been a relatively dry last few months in terms of steelbooks for me, lol. ![]() |

They usually have better artwork than the regular releases is why I get them. Plus, they feel more premium. I don’t only get steelbooks though, only if I like the artwork which is 90% of the time. Lol

The "Hardcover Book" analogy is the closest to my way of thinking, as I also have many hardcover books.
I read the books, I open and watch the Steels, I keep the steels in plastic when not in use though, since they are notoriously susceptible to damage. As for the artwork, I've even purchased dvd metal cases for that (i.e. Dutch Solomon Kane) as sometimes it can be quite alluring. ![]() |

Maybe you stop reading into things with a negative attitude and read questions for what they are. It'll give you less stress in your life. |

And in some cases steelbooks will have the iconic poster images for some classic films (like Zavvi's Apocalypse Now and Chinatown steels). |
