Still, this and Jaws 3D are just begging for a release, so I refuse to give up hope for an official release. In the mean time thank god for unofficial preservation's.
Not sure what you mean, plenty of 4K TVs have 3D and all the UltraHD Blu-ray Players announced so far support Blu-ray 3D. There is no spec for 4K 3D if that's what you are referring to.

If there was a Kickstarter to get the funds to make a Real 3D Blu-ray of Friday the 13th part III I'd definitely kick in a few bucks. Make it happen WB.

You are more or less correct.. I had misinterpreted the lack of a 4k standard to mean that the majority of 4k tv's didn't include support for 3d at all, even in 1080p. The few tv's I've read about in Home theater magazine recently haven't included it either. Seeing as I am not currently in the market for a new tv I haven't done much research outside of some browsing. I'm happy to see I am wrong though as I enjoy 3D and would like to see it continue on in some format for a very long time.

I thought some of the UHD players are confirmed to not support 3D? I read that in the 4k forum I am pretty sure. TV's are 50/50 though, you are right.

Either way though, the writing is on the wall for 3D at home.

Which is sad because I and many other people (at least on these enthusiast forums) continue to buy and enjoy 3D bluray. I plan on buying The Martian in 3D and haven't even seen it.

It seems Kino's letting The Black Pirate and Pandora and the Flying Dutchmen go OOP. Both are showing as "leaving the collection" per an email I received direct from KinoLorber.

I thought they were public domain, so perhaps there are new editions in the future? But all of the Doublass Fairbanks films on DVD are going as well, so maybe it's a rights issue.

In either case, if you want them they are being cleared out at $4.99 so better get them before they disappear. Even if they dont' really go OOP, $4.99 is a deal.

It appears that Friday the 13th 7&8 2-pack has just up and vanished from the entire internet, with all places showing not available or out of stock. Can't even find one on ebay, and gone on amazon.ca also. Weird as all the other Friday 2-fers seem to still be easy to nab.
Not sure what could be happening with it, but worth keeping an eye on for sure.

What's happening with Criterion's Zatoichi Boxset? Is it currently out of print at the moment?

Weird...not available anywhere but I have not read anything about it going OOP. BTW, it is a terrific set. Zato, Zato, Zato...Zatoichi .

EDIT: NOT OOP...it's available at the Criterion store.

plenty of people will no doubt now have their eye out for a BD-only reissue.

Since when is Criterion's Thief OOP? Still in stock with a lot of major retailers, and you can still order direct from Criterion. https://www.criterion.com/films/28024-thief

Believe it the Duel-Format released that is now OOP. Which you can probably get in certain places. But Criterion seems to have put a halt at producing anymore versions of that particular first printing.

Zatoichi might actually be in the same case now that I see what's happening. That Duel-Format release might be a hot commodity for Serious Collector's soon...

Not as depressing a thread as I thought it might be. But Space 1999 S1...ugh. gut punch. Looks like I'll get the UK version. Anyone know if they are basically the same thing?

Sorry, I wasn't clear on that - though I did say the email was direct from Kinolorber. They were $4.99 on Kinolorber.com last night when I posted, but I guess they are now gone - and the email said "disappearing from the collection" on 1/31. They have since taken them off the website, so I think they really are now OOP. Perhaps a better version coming from Cohen film library? I don't know.

Only two of the titles were blu-ray:
The Black Pirate
Pandora and the Flying Dutchman.

For those interested, the DVD's they showed as discontinued were:
  • Douglass Fairbanks Collection (DVD)
  • The Black Pirate (BLU and DVD)
  • The Gaucho (DVD)
  • The Iron Mask (DVD)
  • The Old Dark House (DVD)
  • She (Deluxe Edition) (DVD)
  • Abraham Lincoln & The Struggle (DVD only mentioned, even though there is actually a blu of this)
  • Pandora and the Flying Dutchman(BLU and DVD)
  • Harry Langdon: The Forgotten Clown(DVD)
  • Sudden Fear(DVD)

I have to admit, that the average combo-packs don't typically bother me - but the idea of a "box set" combo back was just stupid. 9 blu-rays and 18 coasters.

Hopefully they are doing a slimmed down, but still cool, package for just the 9 blu-rays.

It seems that the 2006 edition of Kingdom of Heaven has gone out of print.
