I plan to have my Atmos speakers set up in about a month. Can't wait to listen to Starship Troopers again. And watch the pretty colors and stuff!
I still think my favorite looking UHD is "A Few Good Men", but ST is so damned good that I can't argue against it. Maybe a little "hot" with tone mapping, especially sunlight gleaming/highlighting the edge of faces and shoulders, but ... psh. That's such a small complaint that it's hardly worth mentioning.

Depends on the tone mapping

I am aware of this, and next time I watch it, I will have to tweak my settings from the "norm" to balance it, but not by much.

It's just I had a very similar convo with another OLED owner on another forum recently, this is the kind of HDR presentation that doesn't play all that nice with some sets.

Yeah, that happens. OLED can be "touchy" sometimes. However, ST looks awesome. Furthermore, I never felt the grain was too "flecky" or "like a swarm of ants".
People mention that as being an issue on their OLEDs. Heck, I think "Crouching Tiger" is pretty grain-flecky near the beginning, and in some key shots throughout the movie; but not to the point where it's unwatchable, like many claim (also, there's that whole personal opinion/perspective on grain, and any OTHER aspect of video/audio specifications lol).
Once again, I think it is about how people have their sets calibrated, and the way hardware settings/compatibility comes into play. It's like a smaller version of why one person's Windows OS never breaks down, but another person with the EXACT SAME computer specs but with different RAM sticks has issues galore.

I would have fixed the settings a bit when I watched it, but I had 8 friends over and we were all watching the movie. I didn't want to pause, and start tweaking the screen in small increments while everyone is sitting around probably thinking "Dude. It's fine. Just leave it alone." lol

Looks ****ing spectacular on my Oled. Much better than my last 2 Vizio’s. I noticed it doesn’t clip highlights and dat grain looked better, more pronounced. Can see why grain haters wouldn’t like that but I do. Also helps to keep Active HDR engaged.

It looks amazing on my Panasonic EZ952. I think my mouth actually dropped when I skipped though it first time before watching properly.

I saw the UHD for the second time last week and while I think it looks nothing short of spectucular, I still think some parts (sports game at the beginning and the combat school parts during the daytime outside for example) look a little too bright and perhaps over blown so to speak. I had the urge every now and then to bring my contrast setting down.

You can't say this is the case. The only way you can say that is if you have an OLED - because they're finnicky, in which case you may be right.

Watched it on an LCD.

I looks a bit too much at times, at least to my eyes. I seem to recall Spider-Man and the MiB movies also looking very bright but not to the extend of Starship Troopers I think. I don't know, perhaps it's just me.

All those titles definitely use HDR to provide some serious brightness at times. Seems to depend on the person whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. Personally I loves it, but I know some love the more dim movie theater look.

This disc's MaxCLL is pegged at 3995 nits for its brightest possible peak, but even the MaxFALL (highest frame average light level) is extremely high at 2345 nits so it's no wonder this movie's HDR can look as overwhelming as it does on some sets.

The daytime scenes to me looked like pretty damn high backlight SDR viewing. Luckily I like that kind of thing and use a bias light to allow it, but others will disagree.

Currently watching this, great disc - that’s how you do space scenes, no milky blacks here

Just watched this from start to finish and it sure is beautiful. I saw this theatrically three times and it certainly rang true.

The last time I saw this movie was on the excellent DVD (that and the Fifth Element were considered the gold standard for the format at the time).

So imagine my total shock and amazement at how incredible this looked. Just superlative in every aspect. I can't say enough good things about this transfer. I will say though this is first UHD where I had to decrease the backlight on my TV lower than 50. It's bright as all hell, but who cares when it looks this damn great.

Also bought The Fifth Element UHD, another film I haven't seen since the DVD... saving that for tomorrow.

Slowly making my way through all my discs since getting a new TV and I popped this is today. I need to rewatch Leon soon but at the moment I think this is the best catalog release yet. I rewatched A Few Good Men the other day and this just barely has it beat. I don’t think any other UHD has quite this mix of a rich, filmic presentation combined with such a pristine image.

This is also the first chance I’ve had to crank the audio and it sure is a hard hitting mix. Not one of my favorite immersive mixes but it fits the film. One weird thing I had never noticed is Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” playing in the background during Rico/Zander fight scene. It’s alrway a quiet song and it’s buried pretty low in the mix so I didn’t notice it before. Strange choice of music for that scene. Great song, though. And great disc!

Oh, and the sound effect when Rico throws the grenade into the giant bug after he jumps on its back might be the single greatest sound effect of all time.

Yea Starship Troopers is a fantastic catalog release - Sony does a hell of a job.
