Well I just use digibook as an example given that Warner has produced quite an extensive line of them. But really I just meant that with only one release for "The Shining" and now 4 different editions of "The Exorcist" available it just seems odd but again perhaps they are waiting for 2015 for the 35th anniversary.

Don't you agree it is strange given its status as a cult classic and favorite amongst genre fans?...
I might triple dip (HD DVD to Blu-ray for the HT set up I had at the time) this for a digibook. The A/V presentation is fantastic. It may be a little strange that WB has yet to do this considering the repackaging/rereleases that they have done over the last few years. OT, I'm glad that WB is starting to rerelease catalog titles with new remasters this year. That is the proper way to get people to double dip. :coughGoodfellascough:

To that I wanted to ask you guys, "Why?"

It's an English language movie.

If everyone is speaking English throughout the entire film, why would he type in German or Italian?

.
I read that the line wasn't just typed out in a different language, it was a completely different line for the various territories. The reasoning was that the "all work and no play..." line was specific to an English-speaking crowd, so Kubrick researched and found different local phrases with essentially the same meaning for the various regions and had the scene shot with each one. I'd love to see the various versions as an "extra" on a Blu-ray someday.

Yeah. I read that too. I don't mind changing the phrase. I'm just surprised about the typing in a language different than what he's been speaking.

I'm just wondering if the movie was reversed. Let's say it was a German movie and characters were watching a hotel in Germany and speaking German... etc
When the camera zooms in on his papers, would I really expect the papers to be filled with English type? No. I'd expect German.
Just like when I watch an Asian film. Theres always some scene with a sign on a door or a note on a refrigerator, and its in Chinese or Korean in the film, but, a subtitle pops up and displays what it reads. No problem.

Considering Lost Boys just got a new Steelbook with Best Buy, I wouldn't write off the possibility of The Shining getting a Best Buy exclusive steel book as well at some point. Same disk, same content, shiny new case.

Are you aware that the french and the germans watch dubbed versions of american movies in their cinemas.

So, in The Shining Jack would have been speaking french in a french cinema and german in a german theatre. (so, it makes sense to see him typing in the language he speaks in)

Also, in these countries, movies are always shown in their dubbed versions on TV.

It's only since dvd came along that french and german cinephiles were able to watch american films with original audio. This made cinephiles happy, but a large portion of the general public still prefers to watch dubbed movies.

I didn't see anything about Lost Boys getting a new steelbook at BBY, you have links?

You know... I didn't think of that.

Even here, in 80s, foreign films played on screens with an English overdub.
I guess if Crouching Tiger came out in theaters in 1984, it most definitely would have played on screens with an English overdub.
And it also would've cheapened it.

Nice, but it looks like it has the shorter European cut... I have the UK Kubrick boxset with the shorter cut, I'm still looking to pick up the US/Canada release for the NA cut.

I don't own the blu-ray yet but shouldn't this get a remaster? This release is from 2007 surely the pq/aq don't suffice anymore, they certainly shouldn't compare to the quality of blu-rays in 2013. It's one of the greatest horror movies ever made undoubtedly.

Don't let the 2007 tag fool you, the transfer has aged extremely well and to be honest isn't in desprete need for a remaster.

Yeah... But wouldn't it just be nice to get a yummy new transfer for the likes of The shining rather than getting repackages of the same old one.

I suppose it would be for those who didn't pick up the previous one, but I sure wouldn't bother upgrading when the existing release looks great.

What's the point? The current transfer is really good.

You know what I would like though? A big box set...with an ax and a map of the hedge maze in it.

I think "A Clockwork Orange" is the one that needs to be remastered. The current BD of "The Shining" looks fine. But then again, I have the UK set, which is a different transfer from a different, edited cut. So, I could be wrong.

Huh? As far as I know, they use the smae transfer, and I believe the cut is the same too. Do you have a source that says otherwise?

So you would rather have some new edition with no improvements on PQ (ya know the thing that actually matters) but instead a dumb toy ax and a map to a maze? "Whats the point"?
