Thanks guys! I definitely have transformed for the better! I have 7 more pounds to go until I hit my goal weight of 210...then who knows where from there!

I am now up to 70 mins 4 times a week on the elliptical. I also just yesterday, ran my first 5K (no stopping!). I haven't missed a workout since I started exercising on Feb. 11, 2013.

Serious question. I am kind of big, and would love to get back in shape. What happens to the skin when you drop the pounds, does it shrink back or hang off the body?

Luckily for me it snapped right back into place! I have NO hanging skin....but I also carried my weight well when I was 288...people thought I was 250 tops...I have lost weight EVERYWHERE on my body! My wrist is skinnier as my watch twirls around my wrist now, my college ring slips right off my finger...my baseball caps are way too big, even my shoes are too big!

It's been a great, but crazy experience!

depends how big you are.. and how little muscle you have, I would focus on weight training and cardio to slow the extra skin process down a little bit.. if you just drop a ton of weight from cardio you don't build any muscle you will have a lot, but if you start tightening up some of that fat when you're losing some it won't look as bad

Never splurge that much. Sorry to say, but, as R3P0 mentioned, it could kill all the work you had previously put in.

I really try to stay away from ALL fried foods, especially chicken, fish, and fries.

Good god, man!!!

Great job. You must be a tall guy, because you still don't even look 210 pounds.

I love me a 5K. I have ran two 5K's and three 5K mud runs this summer. If you get the chance, do a mud run. They are super fun, especially if you are with a group of people.

I have heard that if you lose the weight gradually, the skin has a better chance of "snapping back" to the shape of your body. If you lose a drastic amount of weight in a short period of time, you are more likely to have hanging skin.

Those pics ARE two complete different guys! I feel like that was someone else that I lived like that for about 10 years...I feel like me again!

Thanks for the compliment! It's been hard work! I joke that I lost my son! He is 12 and weighs 70 lbs! When put in perspective like that, it's crazy!

And if you want to lose 40 lbs, try to compartmentalize...concentrate on losing 10 lbs at a time....much less daunting....that's what I did...I said 20 lbs, then 15 lbs, then 10 lbs at a time...

do I splurge every once in a while? oh HELL yes. if you can't splurge once in a while life really isn't worth living. I get REAL tired of lean chicken and veggies and want something greasy like normal people. otherwise it eats and eats at me till I HAVE to splurge. plus I like beer. and I mean I LIIIIIIIIIIKE beer. on my healthy weeks I only drop 2-3 beer back, but on a splurge party night I can drop a 12 pack of good craft brew like it's nothing (I brew my own beer so I always have 5-10 gallons of brew sitting around in bottles)

I don't mind chicken or turkey at all and I used to hate turkey. I do still prefer turkey as hot dogs and bacon and pepperoni and burgers as opposed to the way we eat it on Thanksgiving though. The odd thing is I used to love beef burgers but now I can't stand them and usually have to have turkey burgers instead. Another weird thing is I dropped from 224 to 160 and it was all in my gut, I think I lost a bit of weight in my face also. One of the good things that came out of contracting diabetes, I guess.

I have given up beer and Scotch....but I'm sure I'll have one next time I cheat. Just waiting till next week to reward myself. Cannot go the rest of my life without greasy food. Before when I tried to eat healthy, I got really tired of boiled eggs, almonds and chicken breasts.

I'm trying to treat myself when I reach goals. My scale is in kilos; started at 106, when I get to 100 I'll....I'm not sure. Years ago, when we lived in Taipei I picked a local steak house for 95, Ruth's Chris for 90, and Lawry's for 85. Never made it to Ruth's Chris or Lawry's.

It's like anything else, you get used to eating lots of poultry. Myself, I never thought I'd get used to eating whole wheat pasta but I did. Cutting alcohol out almost completely wasn't a change at all, I rarely drank before I was diagnosed, drugs weren't a problem either.

I like whole wheat and tri color pasta which I never thought I would like. My mom keeps trying to get me to try Mungbean pasta, but I'm a little apprehensive on that one lol.

I usually just buy 2 or 3 beer a time at 7-11, and I don't drink every night; Scotch I buy the good stuff (Lagavulin) and can only have a glass every once in a while for the price. Bottle lasts 6 months. But I do miss a cold beer when I come home on a hot day.

Doc did tell me I have a fatty liver, so I know I shouldn't give it any booze and I should cut out all junk food. May make an appointment to go back...been almost a year and a half. Also said my blood sugar was high-ish and if I didn't change my lifestyle, I would probably wind up with diabetes. I exercised and ate well for about just 6 months.

Chicken is easy to get here, Taiwan, but turkey is tough. Can get some at the end of the year. It is imported and costs a fortune. Seafood, pork and greens are easy to find, though.

That makes it a bit harder. I hope you like seafood then, I'd probably get into it if the smell wasn't so bad and trying to eat it didn't nauseate me.

I love fish!

Just had some Rockfish for the first time last week. I tend to eat Mahi-Mahi, Rainbow Trout, and Red Snapper the most. Always cooked on my grill. The people at the place I get propane know me by name. I grill so much that it would probably make the most sense to convert my grill to natural gas and hook it up to the house line...

I also like chilled shrimp with a bit of cocktail sauce. Wal-mart carries (I think) a 3lb. bag of the small shrimp.

Those are all great choices. Try to get wild caught fish. You don't want to know how they raise farm raised fish....especially in Asia. Stay away from Tilapia for sure. Grilled tuna or swordfish are great too, but they say they can be higher in mercury so only eat them occasionally.

I love fish but unfortunately it's waaaaay outside my budget down here in AZ. good wild caught fish is between $8-$15 a lb down here. and $8 is for cheap stuff.
