Very nice! And a nice surprise, but I would let Criterion know as well. Sorry no lucky ticket.

I picked up Jules and Jim when it came out but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. It was a blind buy for me, but I've heard so many good things, I couldn't pass it up.

The wife is out for a girl's day/night so I'm going to try to watch as many movies as I can. I just started Repo Man. Next is either Jules and Jim, Blue is the Warmest Cooler, or The Thin Red Line. But hope to get in all three today. The maybe an Oscar nominee later tonight. Here's hoping!!

Back after the Criterion marathon!

My second order arrived today, sans golden ticket. Strangely enough, my first order won't arrive for a few more days.

No damage to mine! I was happy to see they shipped them in a box. The Criterion warehouse is literally right down the street from me, too.

My movies came in perfect condition. I did not get a golden ticket though which kind of bums me out.

[QUOTE=GxyExpress999;8868720]

Thanks! Just finished Repo Man, it was kind of odd, not what I was expecting. I'll need to give it another watch, but overall I think I liked it. The end really brought it home for me, guess I just wasn't expecting the kind of movie it was. I really went into it blind, not reading anything about it, just knowing that a few people who I respect as film lovers recommended it to me, and praised its merits.

So decided on Jules et Jim next... let's see what the fuss on here lately is all about.

Hey Owl,

Was gonna catch that same showing, but FilmLove is bringing fresh prints of three Czech New Wave films by Jan Němec to Atlanta.

I went last night, and was totally blow away by Diamonds of the Night. What a beautiful, affective film. I kept thinking of Vigo's À propos de Nice and Zéro de conduite, but the effect of Němec's film hit much deeper in the gut.

Tonight's film is Report on the Party and the Guests. It's in Criterion's Czech New Wave box, but they're showing a 35mm copy rather than the DVD. I'd be there if I possibly could, given how beautiful DotN was.

Tuesday night is Němec's Martyrs of Love. I'm gonna shelve Seven Samurai for this chance. (Why couldn't one of them be on MONDAY?)

These Czech films along with others are making the rounds as a little festivals of Czech New Wave. I'd strongly recommend them to anyone.

My order of Zatoichi and Fantastic Mr. Fox arrived in an oversized box sans golden ticket. When I picked up the box, a significant amount of shifting occurred. I opened it up and Zatoichi was on top of Mr. Fox!!!??? Miraculously, Fox wasn't crushed and was in good shape. Zatoichi has some slight imperfections around the corners, but I won't send it back because of that. The next box would probably have minor issues also. So, I'm disappointed with Criterion's packaging and hope it will be better for the next flash sale. I'm glad everyone else had better packaging than I did. Maybe I got the new guy for my order

By the way, I finally watched my copy of Three Outlaw Samurai. It was a blind buy that I ended up enjoying. I recommend it to everyone.

Sorry that we'll miss each other, but that Czech festival sounds like a winner as well.

I have two local friends meeting me for the Seven Samurai showing, but I'll be flying solo at the Breathless showing the following Tuesday. Not sure if I'll catch the other films in the Tuesday Classics run, though, since it's a hassle to drive back into town on weeknights from my place in Smyrna.

Oh...and I saw a showing of King Kong (1933) at White Hall on Emory University a couple of summers ago. That was pretty amazing.

I just received my order. Rififi, Paths of Glory, and Battle of Algiers all arrived in a box that was pretty well suited to their size. There was also the large plastic air sack type filler. Unfortunately, Battle of Algiers (which is a single format digipak) has slightly mashed corners on the digipak and on the booklet. This obviously happened in the warehouse before packaging, because the packaging was perfect. I can live with it, but hoped for better. When I got Foreign Correspondent from Amazon recently in a manilla bubble bag, that digipak was perfect.

No gold ticket for me, but I also got my separate order of Masters of Cinema's "City Girl" in the dual disc format. Lots to watch now!

Well, before the laserdisc format went down the drain, Criterion had planned to do six Godzilla releases in the format. They were going to do Gojira and Godzilla: King of the Monsters as separate releases, followed by Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Godzilla's Revenge, and Terror of Mechagodzilla.

I was rather surprised that they reacquired the rights to the original film after Classic Media had done it (and several others) on DVD. I suppose it's not out of the realm of possibility that they might do more on BD, but I'm inclined to doubt it.

That would immediately become my favorite Blu-ray release if that happened!

I imagine that the biggest obstacle is finding source elements that are good enough to make a Blu-ray release worth the effort. I would kill for a Criterion BD of Berlin Alexanderplatz, but I just don't see it happening. The BRD Trilogy...maybe.
