I prefer getting foreign films in Blu-ray if possible. Does TW have exclusive rights for Shady? Is there a chance that some other company might release it on BD? Or will they be biased because the director is only 27 years old?

im not sure if there is a DVD release outside of japan expect the one TW did.
i dont see that movie getting a BD release (english friendly at least)....

TW does most of the time add some nice interviews to these DVDs that would be missing anyway from asian BD releases / or not english friendly.

most blurays that got released in korea for example are at best "medicore" or "ok" compared to the DVD releases TW did.

only ones i could think of is "peppermint candy" and the HK bluray of villain . the oasis and bleak night korean releases arent really worth the bluray in my opinion. same for "friend".

Someone should really post some reviews for thirdwindow films on bluray.com more often and sooner.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/New-D...lu-ray/109620/

just watched the 2 movies from the young women that are included on this set.

Really enjoyed "lust of angels" alot. i think its really well done. would recommend this movie alot to people that like meiko kaji , oshima or shady !
the soundtrack was pretty good as well. the actors did a nice job as well. !

really great release and absolutly worth the money !

Hmmm, not sure I saw any Nagisa Oshima in Lust of Angels. Didn't really care for it or the other two shorts but at least And the Mud Ship Sails Away had something about it.

there's no chance anybody will release it on bluray. It's a super indie film made for around £10,000 and we were the first ones in the world to take a chance on it, so not really any bias because the director is young (i think our track record proves we take more chances on young and unknown Asian directors that anyone else in the world), but remember that for small companies blu-rays are still very expensive so it's not easy to put out a title at such cost which absolutely noone in the world knows of. We only just broke even on DVD and blu-ray costs are 5 times more. It would help if maybe we could sell blu-rays at full costs, but with the fact that blu-rays are sold so cheaply through studios who can afford to drop prices due to sheer number of units sold, it has made it so people prefer to wait for price drops and that makes it near by impossible to take chances on small and unknown titles...

though in honesty, a title made for £10,000 isn't going to have such a massive difference on blu over DVD as it's not like RED cameras were used to make it. It was made cheaply with a pretty much unpaid crew with cheap materials, so seeing the movie at all with English subtitles is something which is rare.

Thanks! Hope you enjoy it as it's a wonderful example of the best of contemporary Japanese indie film-making!

watched Bleak Night Yesterday. looked upscaled on my projector pretty decent for a DVD. its 1/3 of the price of the bluray.

i did enjoy the movie but its nothing i feel like revisiting that often..

Pluto is much better in that regard. Bleak Night is a bit like "friends"

Greatful Dead is really an unknown gem of a film that I think could honestly become a cult hit with the right word of mouth. Unfortunately we're the first in the world (half a year before Japan) to release it on video so it's hard to get that going, but I hope people can watch it and enjoy it as it's really a fun film!

Looks like a really creepy role reversal variation on voyeurism; Peeping Tom meets Takashi Miike!

Was going to overlook this one but glad I looked at the trailer Mansinthe posted, it's now up there with Thief as my most wanted Jan release (Lesson of Evil was awesome, and this looks equally as twisted) - will grab this once payday comes.

One disadvantage Greatful Dead has is the spelling of its title. After looking at the film advert in Third Window website, I kept searching for Grateful Dead and not unexpectedly, kept getting BDs and DVDs about the band. I had given-up for more than a week and it was only when Masinthe posted the picture that I realised my error.

I wonder how many others are making the same mistake in searching for the film?

Yeah, even putting the correct title of Greatful Dead brings up Grateful Dead so hard to get it. Had a similar problem in the past with OASIS that makes it almost impossible to buy the DVD, but unfortunately that's the name of the film and not too easy to change that. The director himself spelt it as Greatful in order to not be confused with the band, but most sites automatically assume you're searching for the other. Direct link on our website though plus ww have our own amazon store, but yes it's a pain otherwise

price just went up again to £18.94.
im not to suprised if this movie will sell bad.

its hard to find after all , its probably really unknown to most people and on top of that this price... really no idea what amazing things here.. first they offer it for weeks for 14 GBP and suddenly they have to increase the price?

Amazon have a price-altering algorithmn that seems to try to work around an average price, trying to temp some in with unusually low prices and then, presumably, compensating or simply shifting back up to redress the difference to whatever it's average for that item needs to ultimately be.

frustrates the hell out of me - I use 'camel camel camel' or 'find dvd' websites to monitor price drops, and can wait many many months as a result of not knowing where and when prices will shift. I still set general rules for prices I'm willing to pay, and a lot of that has resulting from clearly seeing amazons prices shift in preorder and post-release times.

I confess I am not impressed by the cover art of Greatful Dead (Shady cover is superb). But somewhere - and I cannot recall where - I have seen a brilliant picture featuring the film. NOT the hammer picture on the TW website but somewhere else where the right half of the girl's face is shown with a bluish tinge and the older man appears in a smaller frame. IMO, that would have made a greater impact as cover.

IMO, when selling a lesser known film, a catchy cover art is important to elicit attention.

adam did offer FB users to pick their favorite cover (not the first time) and thats the one the majority wanted

I like it. but i learnt to not judge a movie by its cover.
