The 3D/2D disk will play on 3D equipment in 2D and 3D and in 2D on 2D equipment. When you watch this in 2D you will be watching the left eye image of the 3D transfer, which is for all practical purposes, the UHE. It is likely that no new scan of the source (OCN) was involved. Any perceived difference between the UHE and the new 3D disk can be attributed to changes made during the 3D JVC conversion process. There may be additional 3D elements added, but that has not been confirmed.
So it's the same "DNR turned the cast and sets into wax statues" transfer from the last time combined with the horrendously awful JVC conversion method? *throws up*

great, both "I, Robot" and "Jumper" got crappy 3D conversions (according to the reviews, at least)...

Chalk another one up to ray-ray.
Disappointing. I had hoped for a new scan given how good some fairly recently released catalogs have looked from Fox (including Porky's, Raising Arizona, and Wall Street). Fox probably figures they technically did "remaster" Predator for the UHE and are just going to re-cycle that POS.

If Finn didn't know what was on the disc, PR man or not, he should have just kept quiet about it instead of implying of a new 4K scan.

I will be disipointed if we don't get a playable 2D version with a faithfully done new scan, but I can also live with my 2008 Blu-Ray which is good enough for me. Just imagine if the 2008 Blu-Ray never happened and we were stuck with the UHE as the only Blu-Ray option. In that case a lot of us would be sticking with our DVD copies, and the 2008 Blu-Ray is a large upgrade over the DVD (even though I still keep the DVD around for extras).

Same goes for Sony's 2D version of Underworld Awakening, which looks quite different from the 3D/2D disc.

Basically, if you ever see a 3D disc which has a 2D playable version on it, they're both part of the same MVC encode. Viewing "just" the left eye is exactly how the 2D version is supposed to work.
Regarding Dredd I got the info from this site as the review states the 3D disc includes the 2D in AVC and 3D in MVC.

There are countrys that have separate on both. French 2D Dredd is a good example since it's better PQ than US disc. 2D Underworld have better PQ than 3D also.

Yep. A 2D capable only player, will ignore the extra information and just process the base (2D/AVC) stream.

But the disc can be authored, so that the AVC stream cannot be processed unless the player is 3D capable i.e. a player that can process the dependant stream as well.

He is a quote taken from the specs of the DoStudio MVC encoder:

Quote:
The DoStudio encoder creates Blu-ray Disc™ spec compliant MVC files for BD3D applications.
•MVC high profile
•VBR/CBR support
•2-pass encoding
•Multi-threaded
•AVC headers for decoding of base view with standard AVC decoder/player
But I do not know exactly how studios "lock" their 3D titles. Best option is to talk to a Blu-ray authoriser.

Even if they are "locked" they can be unlocked to play in 2D with PC software like any hd but I would love to have that kind of feature in a Oppo. Same software can skip trailers and stuff.

Contrary to what James Finn, Fox Home Entertainment spokesman said regarding the inclusion of the Ultimate Hunter Edition Blu-ray as the second disk in this 3D Predator release, Fox Connect artwork and description shows the second disk to be a DVD. I have asked Foxconnect to confirm that disk 2 is actually a DVD. I will edit this post with their reply. Their first response to my request for clarification was to ask me if I wanted to know if the 2D version on Disk 1 was the UHE or if disk 2 was a DVD.

The UK 3D BD is listed by Amazon UK as region B.

I really want the Predator head. I wonder how big it is? I have very little shelf space.
