Why, because he's the only plot development we've heard about before the movie comes out?
Umm, no. To be honest, can't say the thought's ever particularly occurred to me.

(And no, I wasn't burning with hype to find out how Kelsey Grammar as Stinky Pete was going to affect TS2 before that one came out, either.)

Don't worry. When you turn 20 you'll finally be free from the rules.

lol. The first time i heard about the plans to make this film i got so excited. I don't even know when this was, maybe 2 years ago? Well anyways, i remember they scrapped the script of Buzz travelling to China/Japan in order to get fixed since there was a recall. The new plot sounds better to me and i can't wait for the 3D experience!

Pixar news including TS3 stuff:

Quote:
There is a bunch of Pixar tidbits I missed in the last few days that I’ve noticed not too many sites have picked up on. Possible new additions to the Toy Story 3 cast, director Lee Unkrich talks about the visual improvements to the third film in the trilogy, and is Cars 2 getting a new title?

First up is about the look of the new film. Director Lee Unkrich did an interview with HitFix and talked breifly about how the new film will look in comparison the the older two films:

We couldn’t make a “3″ that looked completely different than the first two; however, as a studio and both technologically and artistically, we’ve made great strides over the last fifteen years. I mean, you look at “Ratatouille,” it’s just a gorgeous, gorgeous film. And so you want to take advantage of that, but at the same time, you want the world to feel familiar, so that was one of our big challenges at the beginning, working… luckily I had Bob Pauley who was the original production designer for the first “Toy Story”. He designed Buzz Lightyear. He’s my production designer on this film. We all worked very hard to have the world… and it’s a constant challenge to have the world feel familiar, but to take advantage of what we can do now artistically. So if you look at “Toy Story” and then “Toy Story 2,” there was a big leap in the look of the film. You know, just to be geeky, we were able to use depth of fields, which is something we couldn’t do on the first film at all. Suddenly we could use focus and depth to augment our visuals. We’ve made even more exponential leaps doing “3″. We had to rebuild everything. It’s not like these characters were sitting on a disk somewhere waiting to be used again. We had to rebuild them completely from scratch, and along the way we were able to give them more sophistication in their look and in their controls. But the other thing is that the animators at our studio have gotten… they’re just phenomenally talented. They’ve gotten so much better than they were on the earlier films. But I have to restrain them because Woody needs to behave like Woody. Buzz needs to behave like Buzz. I can’t have them suddenly feel like a little human, you know, come alive. So it’s a… yeah, it’s a constant battle. It’s a fun challenge to have it feel like “Toy Story.” but have it look really kick-ass.

Next up, UpcomingPixar noticed that a couple new names have begun to appear on the Toy Story 3 IMDb page. While this is no where near a confirmation, it does seem to fit what we’ve been hearing in terms of characters. And truth is, you’ve never heard of these actresses before, they’re virtual unknowns. The interesting part is the characters they play. Young child actress Beatrice Miller will be playing Andy’s sister Molly, who briefly appeared in the previous Toy Story films as a baby. But in Toy Story 3 she will be a bit older (no real surprise), probably around age 10. The actress that will provide her voice has credits on Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Another new name on the casting list is another unknown childhood actress named Emily Hahn, who will be playing a character named Bonnie. No more information is provided. So who is “Bonnie”?

And finally, Jim Hill has noticed that the Walt Disney Company just registered a few new Pixar related domain named this past week:

* CARS2-WORLDGRANDPRIX.COM
* CARS2WORLDGRANDPRIX.COM
* CARSWORLDGRANDPRIX.COM
* WORLDGRANDPRIX-MOVIE.COM

Will the Brad Lewis-directed Cars sequel be retitled Cars 2: World Grand Prix? You might recall that sequel will follow Mater the tow truck, who gets his passport and takes a worldwide trip with Lightning McQueen. So the name fits. I’m betting we’ll find out at the D23 Expo in September. Cars 2 isn’t set to hit theaters until summer of 2011.

Toy Story 3 Footage Revealed In Venice
Posted on Monday, September 7th, 2009 by Peter Sciretta

Pixar was honored with the Golden Lion in a presentation at the Venice Film Festival this weekend. At the presentation, they revealed the first never-before-seen footage from Toy Story 3 and Princess and the Frog. Descriptions of the clips can be found after the jump thanks to /Film reader Ripido. The scene from the beginning of Toy Story 3 in particular sounds very cinematic. Can’t wait to see it for myself.
Two clips:
Toy Story 3
Andy now has grown up, he has to go to college and his mom tells him to get rid of his stuff in the bedroom: attic or trash.
So andy finds Buzz and Woody in a box and decides to bring Woody with him at the college and put the other toys in a black
plastic bag for the attic. When he opens the ladder to the attic his sister shows up and he leaves the plastic bag on the floor to help her. the ladder closes and his mum walks by, sees the plastic bag and put everything near the trash out of the house.
The trash truck is coming and Woody witnesses everything and tries to help his friends (they are inside, using the dino’s tail to break the bag). Woody arrives but cracks the wrong bags. So the man takes the bag and put it on the truck. Woody runs to help his friends
when we see a close up of the truck starting to swallow the bags. Then close up of woody that shouts “nooooo!”
Princess and the Frog
the first 10 minutes were shown. Tiara is a kid, daughter of the lady that is babysitting a rich white girl. she tells them the story of the frog that becomes a prince after the kiss of a princess and she’s disgusted, whereas the rich spoiled girl would like that to happen. then she goes back home where her father tells her he would like to open a restaurant. she wishes that upon a star, but then she sees a frog and she runs away scared out of the door. time passes and she comes back as ayoung adult dressed as a waiter with that dream of her own restaurant still in her mind. it’s in the morning she’s not able to sleep after the night shift because during the day she works in a different restaurant. she goes out and there’s a jazz song with musicians and a magician that could be the bad guy of the movie. then we see her hard life as a waiter while the song goes on.

Playing hedgehog called Mr. Pricklepants

Quote:

Just when you thought that Toy Story 3 couldn’t get any more exciting: enter Timothy Dalton!

The former 007, Hot Fuzz star and all-round nice guy, will be lending his voice to the Disney/Pixar threequel, Disney president John Lasseter announced today at a London-based Disney Animation Showcase.

Dalton will voice Mr. Pricklepants, a hedgehog toy with thespian tendencies. How he fits into the story, we’re not sure (could he be the story’s villain?), but if Dalton is allowed to keep his accent, he will be the first Brit to grace the Toy Story franchise, unless you count Andi Peters’ cameo in Toy Story 2. But we don’t. We really, really don’t. And neither should you.

Lasseter also gave us a sneak peek at a sequence from the film and the as-yet unreleased trailer. The clip showed Andy packing from college, and emptying all his toys into a black bin bag for storage in the attic. He hesitates over Woody and Buzz, finally putting Woody in the box of things to take for college. But all the toys are panicked - especially Woody, who's worried for his friends. When Andy is distracted by his little sister and leaves the garbage bag on the landing instead of upstairs in the attic, his mother takes it out to the kerb - and a frantic Woody has to save his friends from a rapidly approaching bin lorry .

We also saw the as-yet unreleased trailer, which showed bits of the same scene, but developed the story. Clearly the toys end up being sent to a daycare centre, where they are horribly abused by the little kids - and after that it's time for a break-out attempt to find a safe haven, and hopefully a new owner, in a cruel world. It looks every bit as good as its titanic predecessors.

As I start this post, John Lasseter is on stage at D23, delivering a string of Toy Story 3 announcements. Thanks to the magic of Twitter, I’m able to keep tabs on the little bits and pieces from some 5,400 miles away. As I write, I’m very excited. I wonder what great news will come after the break? It depends on how far Lasseter goes in dropping news bombs. Already, though, I have some surprising casting news to report…

This was unexpected… John Lasseter has confirmed that John Morris, the voice of the young Andy in Toy Story and Toy Story 2 is back for part 3. This time round, Andy is 18 years old. John, on the other hand, is 24. I bet he’s still got a Woody and Buzz at home, though. That is a sweet piece of casting. I like it. And IMDB user jmcastro is going to be over the moon. As far as I can tell, John hasn’t actually done much since he last lent his voice to Andy.

More casting news breaking now. Also on the roster are Pixar vets Jeff Garlin - previously Captain B. McCrea of The Axiom in Wall-E, and Bonnie Hunt - previously Rosie in A Bug’s Life, Sally in Cars and Ms. Flint in Monsters Inc - as well as Whoopi Goldberg, making her Pixar debut. Who are they playing? No idea!

Lasseter also reconfirmed the casting of Timothy Dalton as Mr. Pricklepants, but no new info appears to have surfaced on that front. Doesn’t stop it being just about the most amusing thing I’ve heard in weeks.

The announcements have now moved on to Winnie the Pooh and Cars 2, and as far as I can tell, the info presented was just the same as we heard on Thursday. All good things will come to those who wait, I suppose.
