I have way too many that I had on VHS and laser to mention.
I now have two laserdisc players, a standard Pioneer and one of their first models which is a top loader, and boy do they make the old discovision discs look great.

When I was a teen I signed up to the Columbia House Clint Eastwood VHS Club, so each month they'd send a new Clint movie. Here, I was expecting Dirty Harry, TGTBTU, etc. instead each month I'd wind up with Any Which Way You Can and City Heat. So anyway, I had a LOT of Clint tapes that I didn't upgrade to DVD. But some of them I have bought on blu-ray (The Clyde movies, Hang Em High, Pale Rider).

Looking through my discs:

- African Queen (wasn't on dvd until the blu came out)
- Brainstorm, Fearless '93 (proper aspect ratio didn't show up on dvd, or not until late in the game)
- Most of my Beatles LaserDiscs
- Mad Mad Mad Mad World (waiting for the roadshow cut)
- Moroder's Metropolis
- THX 1138 (waited in vain for the theatrical cut, broke down & got the blu)
- Roger Rabbit

Probably a bunch of others.

Surprisingly many.

Although my DVD collection was started early and was decently large, my Blu-ray purchases have greatly surpassed them in only a few years (my Blu-ray collection here isn't updated, need to get around to that - I have triple now). I think at one point my DVD collection was just under 400, before I started upgrading and giving away DVDs. And that's not 400 discs - that's titles - and a significant part of my collection is TV. Somewhere around 100 of those are TV releases.

I hesitated on the DVD upgrade for quite a number of titles - or I resisted later sequel releases/whole sets of films. I had Matrix I, but not the rest - the first few X-men movies, but not the set, etc. DVDs used to be expensive, LOL - and I'd say that by 2005 I had pretty much stopped buying anything but bargain catalog titles and television releases that weren't likely to make it to BD (and so far, I've done well - notably, I avoided Friends for years, even on crazy $8/season sales, because I knew some day it would be in HD and I could wait since it was on TV in reruns all the time anyway).

Not only that, there have been a lot of titles I never even had on VHS or LD - like Indiana Jones films - never owned any. I saw them on HBO or wherever when I was a teenager, but never bought them. Love the UK Box set now though, well worth it.

Titles in both categories would compromise a significant amount of my collection.

Nothing that I can think of besides Disney movies. I was too young to have a real VHS collection, other than the Disney movies my family bought.

I didn't really start collecting until the DVD days.

A lot of movies that are heavy on the darkness and grain, probably because DVD had trouble with films like this. I'd watch something like Jaws, Aliens, or The Fury and instead of getting to see grain it was still the same murky mess from the VHS tapes, so I stuck with my VHS copies and never made it to DVD.

Menace II Society (although I had/have a great anamorphic custom dvdr from the Criterion laserdisc).

Dead Presidents (if it ever comes out, same deal with a custom laser rip on that)

Dead Presidents...another Disney owned movie that would be great to have on blu-ray.
