Personally I'd go with either the Japanese Geneon edition or the UK edition ... and skip all the US editions.

I've been willing to time to see how long it takes after I insert the Blu-ray disc into my PS3 to when the movie actually starts. I think it's roughly around 2-3 minutes. It's pretty bad.

It's a piece of trash, plain and simple. Besides, the transfer does not do this movie justice. Who cares if it's "The best version out in the US", it's still trash.

At-least my US version of American Psycho acts like a Blu-ray movie. It's a crappy transfer, but I put it in, and it loads up in 5-6 seconds. This on the other-hand is a disgrace.
LOl, though it really isn't a laughing matter.

I never bought this BD and I agree with all you said. I have the SD DVD which includes a "Special Edition" and came with the steel casing and booklet.

Gladiator isn't nearly as bad, at least with my equipment.

The fact is, there will always be different transfers of films for blu-ray, just as there was for DVD. It all depends how much you want to spend, how much time you want to spend looking for the best, and then ultimately how much you like the film.

I love Terminator 2, pretty much the best action film ever made. But im sure as hell not going to spend over $60 for one film, unless is a multiple disc release (5+).

Too bad there's no function on a TV to add detail to the picture that was scrubbed out with DNR.

Yeah seriously, I don't know how that screencap isn't a night and day difference to everyone. The US release is so obviously DNR'd. I'm not convinced that the Japanese image is necessarily oversaturated either. IMO the coloring on the US release looks muted. Arnold's skin isn't that pale and waxing looking IRL either. People are probably forgetting that most actors are wearing makeup so in reality the Japanese coloration is probably more "true".

After watching both versions recently...the JP version looks more like film. It has some grain but more detail. The US Skynet edition isn't horrible but it looks too clean. Too shiny. Faces look like wax. The sound in both are comparable.

I had the JP Steelbook since December and wasn't going to bother with the US version but I picked it up for 15$. Wanted to see the extras.

No, the Skynet version is the one that fell victim to DNR. Look at the pic, the one on the left (Skynet) clearly has less detail.

The Skynet Edition has less detail due to the excessive DNR. I dont know how you cant see that. Might as well call Arnie "Putty Man".

where exactly did this image comparison come from? can someone here post a capture of their own copy of this japanese release? Im finding it hard to believe there is that much detail.

I'd post a frame capture of my Studio Canal/Universal Skynet Edition, if someone would be so kind as to tell me how.

theonly thing IMO that looks better in the skynet edition is the eyes.. otherwise it looks so faded and washed out.. flesh tones look dull.. Looks like your comparing a dvd on a westinghouse to a blu ray on a kuro

I have both the USA Skynet edition (for the extras) and the UK edition (for the movie quality).

And the strange thing is that the UK edition is on a BD25 and still looks better than the Skynet on a BD50 (!?)

The majority of the difference in the screenshot posted is in saturation. The difference in definition is minimal (and possibly the result of boosted contrast?), and for most people, easily not worth paying 40 dollars more.

And I don't know about you all, but I always prefer English language packaging and menus on English language films. If the film were Japanese, I could deal with Japanese packaging and menus, but... Terminator? That's just not right.

lmao

They all have DNR. They all have EE. You are a fool if you think the Japanese edition doesn't have DNR and EE present as well.

So?

I don't use my words to attempt to motivate a single person. I use my words to discuss with everyone. Dude could buy 100 copies of the 50 dollar Japanese edition for all I care.

Why is it people assume that because I don't have something listed in my collection, I don't own it?

There are something like 200 BDs I have that I've not bothered to add to my collection here. Hell, there are like 20 sitting in front of me here that I've not even gotten around to adding to my own private list.

That's not a nice thing to say.
