Never been able to choose between directors as they are all a mixed bunch. Even the best has produced turkeys and the worst have done great ones. The most consistently good director has to be Eastwood.

No other director intrigues me quite like Godard. He's the only director I have a poster of hanging up on my wall (aside from Kevin Smith, if you count my framed Jay & Silent Bob photo).

Not all of Godard's films are winners, especially his more political works which honestly just end up confusing and boring me. However, his constant experimentation in film-making techniques has created some of the most imaginatively stunning films of all-time: Alphaville, Breathless, Contempt, Made in USA, Pierrot Le Fou, Vivre Sa Vie, Weekend, etc. Not all of his risks pan out perfectly, but even some missteps are captivating in their own right, like Keep Your Right Up and King Lear which are just flat-out weird.

Catch me on another day though, and my answer would easily be John Waters.

I voted for Alfred Hitchcock, although Billy Wilder, Otto Preminger, John Ford, and Akira Kurosawa are high on my list as well.

South Korea I voted "Other"

I realize that this is a revived thread, but I'm amazed at the lack of Korean directors being mentioned.
Here's a few that come to mind:

Bong Joon-ho
Hong Sang-soo
Kim Ji-woon
Kim Ki-duk
Lee Chang-dong
Ryoo Seung-wan

& my vote for favorite movie director: Park Chan-wook

No Takashi Miike either or Sion Sono, on the list provided though I voted for Stanley Kubrick, I would of voted for him anyway even if those other directors were on it. Out of all his films I rate them higher than any other directors. It was a great moment in life knowing you're favourite horror film, favourite sci-fi film and favourite war film were all directed by the same person.
