Arrow Die Hard 24/7

Quote:
Last night, Harry posted a piece indicating that the long gestating DIE HARD 5 might be called DIE HARD 24/7 (HERE).

This prompted a correspondence from an...established creative talent within the entertainment industry. Someone known to AICN, who could feasibly be known to you as well if you heard his/her name... someone who drops AICN a line from time to time to offer welcomed clarity on frustratingly vague newsbits.

This time, she/he wanted to let us know how DIE HARD 24/7 got the name none of us seem to like. Ironically, what a few Talkbackers were joking about beneath Harry's article (linked above) turns out to be true.

At one point, The Powers That Be at Fox mulled an idea - DIE HARD 5 and the TV show 24 were to cross over. The intent was for Kiefer Sutherland to appear as Jack Bauer in an adventure with Bruce Willis' John McClane. Hence...DIE HARD 24/7.

Our dude/lady didn't know how much development was actually put into this notion, but she/he believes the project didn't pan out because Kiefer was more interested in launching his own 24 movie franchise (still said to be in the works) than doing buddy shtick in Bruce's already established series. Which leaves some questions. Are we just now getting wind of an older title that has since been abandoned? Did they keep the title because they thought it was good, but are using it for some entirely different DH sequel conceit? Or, if DIE HARD 24/7 is actually still in play as a title, is there still a specific reason for using it?

I'll be the first to admit that, at face value, this notion sounds like the pitiful ranting of a wizzened fanboy. Again, though, this comes from a source we view as reasonably credible. Is there a margin for error? Absolutely, but not too likely in this case. Food for thought and fun to speculate about. So, let you imaginations run wild...

We'll let you know if we hear anything else about this...

Glad the crossover didn't pan out. The world isnt big enough to hold John McClane and Jack Bauer.

I am a huge Die Hard fan and I think the name is stupid, and DH4 is a horrible movie so I am hoping/praying this will be better than 4

Two completely different franchises, this would be the first Die Hard movie I pass on if they do this.

Would have been a completely idiotic decision to do that!!!! Sometimes just when I think the studios can't do anything stupider they go and pull something out like this!!! I love the Die Hard series and it has no business being crossed over, especially with 24. Let me guess, there would have been a mole in the department..

It seems like they thought, hey marvel is crossing over all their movies and characters and people are eating it up so lets cross over Die hard and 24. Yeah, Marvel does do it because that's how it's supposed to be!!!

I agree and I would probably see the film and have a geek stroke during it, but it wouldn't work out IMO. The franchises are just too different in format and style. I was glad to read that this would probably lead to each getting a film though.

Jack didn't want to take a backseat to John.

My main hope for Die Hard 5 is for it to go back to being rated R like it is meant to be. I liked Live Free Or Die Hard but it really should have been R from the get go instead of a unrated DVD release and theatrical Blu.

These are two completely different series. Mixing them would not work out well.

This has me thinking that Jack and John will be together in the next Die Hard film because this is FOX we are talking about. They will save money by making Die Hard 24/7 instead of two separate films. I could see the plot having John chase Jack through Europe under false government pretenses and then John ends up helping Jack. This would be kind of like John Woo's The Killer relationship wise. If it gets the right director and Billy Ray wrote a good script this has potential to be one hell of a movie! Of course maybe not and maybe they will be two separate movies?? Either way interesting to ponder.
