It's not how they're achieved but how they're used. Technical achievements should be lauded yes but that's secondary to what it helps accomplish in the film.

For example, the steadycam work The Shining is incredible and a feat of filmmaking but it's how it's used in the film that makes it impressive. Likewise the long tracking shots in Goodfellas - great technical execution yes but the reason it works is because it tells us something about Hill, his attitude and his world.

Children of Men's long takes were stunning and were argumented by trick joins and edits - which is exactly the same thing Hitchcock did in Rope. the fact that CGI is one of the tools used now doesn't matter, it's the same principle. And the how is still secondary to the why - and, in Children of Men, the why was fantastic. The long takes added to the confusion and geography of the scenes in an incredible way.

Cauron is a great visual storyteller and I have no doubt that Gravity will continue his tradition of using what tools he has to great effect.

Love Cuaron's filming style and think he is an excellent director, but ... I can't stand George Clooney, and Sandra Bullock really gets on my nerves.

Don't know what I'll do with this one.

Would you like them to film in space? I'm sure sending an entire cast and crew into orbit is reasonable.

Why don't they just parachute back down to earth?

Well they did do that for some of the scenes in Apollo 13(Vomit Comet).

yet they've had bomb after bomb this year which sucks. i can already tell audiences will hate this.

Probably; it looks like it'll be the standard "critically loved and commercially hated" fare that just manages to rake its money back on home media. I'm hoping that I'm wrong since I love Cuaron and his work.

This film has been sitting on the shelf for a while. Shot in April 2011, it was due for release in November 2012, but Warner have delayed the film until October this year...

It depends on the circumstances behind it; Warner have been delaying and swapping a lot of film's releases publicly recently (300 and All You Need is Kill most notably) so who knows how long they've been debating the release dates behind closed doors?

It may be they have little confidence in this so have put it off, but also might be that they are confident it can do well on it's own when not surrounding by the meatier stuff they're putting out -- Man of Steel for example.

Whatever the reasons, it'll be an interesting one to check out.

Warner is just trying to avoid opponents. This film will almost certainly bomb if it's placed in a "hostile environment".

Maybe they could do it like...ohhhh...that 1968 film did and it actually looks real. I think it was called a Space Odyssey or something????

The trailer looked interesting...I think. I dunno. Whats the point of it?

This is the beginning to Transformers 4 which is actually a prequel to Dark of the Moon.

I hope this won't be just another space film riddled with factual inaccuracies. I've already noticed some blemishes. For example, stars are not visible from the low Earth orbit.
