Yup, I got hit wth $8 in duty fees once, but only when I ordered three at once. It is certainly better to do individually...

And I got lucky, ordered 3 box sets - Oceans, Matrix and Bourne great prices something like $75-80 shipped Royal Mail - no duty - I guess it all depends on the Post Office and what kind of mood they are in...

Lucky duck. Have you ever had to pay duties? It would be good to know what the chances are with larger orders...

its not actually the post office, rather than the customs office. customs decided what to hit you with and CP only delivers it and collects for them.

On my side, I received today the Batman Boxset. Value of the package was 16.xx£. No duties. A few weeks ago, I received an order of +-60£, no duties as well.. I don't know how they choose the ones who will be paying those fees...

Hope it will be the same for the rest of my last order that have not been shipped with my batman boxset....

I was wondering. I've never been hit before. But even if you did get hit, wouldn't it still be cheaper then buying it in Canada? Let's take Batman anthology for example. In Amazon.ca it's $90 CAD and Amazon UK is about $29 CAD shipped! How much could Tax and duty be? I see everyone here seems to be scared or nervous about it(including me HAHAHA).

I've never been charged either when ordering BD's or vinyl from amazon UK, so I don't know what the Customs Duty charge could be. I suspect it's based on the selling price, so it couldn't be more than say $5 or something. Even at $10 it's most definitely worth it.

From the Canada Border Services Agency Website:

Under the provisions of the Postal Imports Remission Order, if someone mails you an item worth CAN$20 or less, you don’t have to pay duty or taxes on the item. If the item is worth more than CAN$20, you must pay the applicable duty, the GST or HST, and any PST on the item’s full value.

Handling fees

When items are imported into Canada by mail, Canada Post charges the recipient either a $5 handling fee for collecting duty and taxes on behalf of the CBSA, or an $8 handling fee if the item was sent by Priority Courier.

So in Blu-vie's example, the worst case scenario would be:

Item cost: $29 CDN
Duty / Handling Fees - $5 CDN
Taxes - 3.77

Total = 37.77 CDN.

So you are still saving 60% off the Amazon.ca price.

the 5.00 fee is canada post...UPS can charge more (30+) although as i've mentioned 3 orders from the uk and the most i've been charged is the tax so far

i buy practically all my Blu-rays from amazon UK... zero tax and no duties every single time... the delivery charge covers what i would pay for gas money here anyway... so in the end it's still cheaper than toronto retail with no traffic hassle...
