God I hate threads like these. Simply fodder for the hd-dvd schmucks. If you want to go neutral fine! We don't all need to hear about it!

Once again, I bought my tv and my BD player, and ILL buy my HDDVD player after thanksgiving. BD is not closing the deal and I want ALL my movies in HD. Im not going to watch 60% of them in HD while owning a $500 player just because Ill feel guilty about not supporting BD. Sheesh.

Yes BD is a superior format, BUT PQ is even. When it comes to movies Ill own both. Im tired of waiting, and the only way to enjoy HD Movies is to own both.

Yeah yeah, I also suck because Im watching Dish Network's 37 HD nationals at 1440x1080i instead of sticking by Comcast with their 12 nationals because they are ALLEGEDLY 1920x1080i . Im such a sellout.
I wouldn't say you're a sellout, you're just going to be sold ...more

As someone who completely hated HDDVD at one point, I really dont understand the issue with someone that chooses to have as many movies in HD as possible.

I just want my movies in HD. I have been a blu ray supporter from day one and still am...but this move by Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks changes peoples needs. Also I'm tired of watching Universal movies in SD and not HD. BTW Universal has some decent titles coming out that I would like to see in HD. The time has come to go neutral even though I prefer Blu Ray. Times have changed!

Congratulations: you've just done your bit to drag it on even longer.

Exactly.

Do all of you really want to own more than one format just to play all of the movies?

I think it's a big mistake to support both formats, it's not the same as owning Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. What you're doing is keeping the war from diminishing.

Depends on if you think it can be won. I do not.

By the time BD and HDDVD sales grow more than a blip and studios loyalty cant be bought, combo players will be cheap and most of them will be neutral.

Most combo players will be cheap in the future? They will have to pay licensing fees to both BDA and the DVD forum. So I wouldn't be surprised if it's uncommon for a combo player to be sold for less than a hundred dollars. Most people nowadays won't pay more than $100 for a DVD player. The consumers are more of cheapskates than ever when it come to electronics.

You are not doing anybody a favour by prolonging the format war. The consumers will continue to be confused for years to come if this keep up.

Why does it seem like the ones on the "fence" or "format neutral" ***** the loudest about the war and yet they fuel the fire from both sides?
Just hold out it really isn't that hard to do. The guy that started this thread stated he was a college student and didn't have the money to just throw around thats fine save the 300.00 bucks you were going to waste on HD-DVD and buy some more blu-ray titles. Let your purchases speak for themselves companies do what makes them money. Bottom line show them blu is where the money is and the format war will end.

I want movies in HD too, but I demand quality for my hard earned dollar, not shoddy transfers, skipping discs, etc. and whether by reviews or word of mouth, both show HD-DVD as the inferior technology. But average is good enough to some people I guess

...instead of going neutral you guys should support blu-ray more so companies like Paramount can't get away with moves like this.

Yep....and MS loves him for it as two formats will never sell to the masses and crappy 720p low bit rate MS downloads are what he will reap with two dead format players as boat anchors to boot.

Better stock up on lots of new pots for all that boiling water, get ready for glorius 1080i and low bit/bandwidth glory of hd dvd.
Oh, and lets not forget that core dd 5.1 audio that Paramount has in store for it's bean counters chosen format.

Rather than spending 300+ dollars for HD DVD you could go a much cheaper route that can net you all HD DVDs that are made and will be made.

200+ blu and upconvert for the other titles. I will not buy HD-DVD untill I have too (hopefully never). Support Blu and it will all work out in the end, if not, buy HD-DVD in bulk at cheaper prices down the road. Upconvert baby!!

Look at the hi def CD debacle. Even with combo players, people (the common folk) were confused and in the end chucked it for free, low def downloads. The same will happen to this market. If one side OR the other doesn't win fast, get pricing down and put out only hi def media, these formats will be as quaint as 8-track tape, sitting in the dusty corner of a few high end devotees attics.

I'm for getting this thing over--and quickly--with BD. Or soon, we'll have neither format.

I really hope that you are smarter than this. You do realize that you are being sucked into Microsofts master plan. If they have their way you won't have ANY hd movies on DISC except what you buy over the next two years or so on BD or HD-DUD. You may be satisfied with crappy bandwidth constrained video but us true videophiles are not. Giving in to their nonsense is only going to KILL HD disc format whether it be BD or HD-DUD. There is only one way to widespread adoption of this next gen format and that is BD. If Microsoft wins we all lose. Why can't you neutral people see this? It's plain as day, it's right in front of you and you seem to just gloss right over it like it does not even exist.

I stand by my Blu-ray. I never like crappy things and HD-DuD is one of them. Paramount can go to h*%#!

I buy & rent Blu-ray Exclusively. And for as long as BD exists as the best choice, it will be my only HiDef format.
