Also, I asked Walmart about the Gladiator defect and they gave me the cold shoulder.
I encountered a somewhat similar situation yesterday when exchanging my copy at BB. The service person the VERY understanding and patient with the whole process. He said he hadn't heard of the exchange, but he didn't doubt me either at the same time. I wish there was something I could have printed out to taken with me, but they honored the exchange. Maybe, it helped by standing and staring at him the whole time?

You don't need to provide postage for them to mail you the new disc. I asked.

Well, you can always have them call 888-889-9456 and ask Paramount for themselves, but you might risk them knowing you're supposed to mail it in. I'm not sure if the retailers are part of the exchange program. I don't think there's an actual recal for the discs, I think it's a voluntary/optional thing for each consumer.

Question - it says here the new ones don't have the "2-disc set" printed on the side - are the new remastered ones a single disc? No extras disc?

I went to BestBuy today and took my 'bad' copy in for the 'good' copy (no "2 disc set").

My old copy was an Xmas gift and I didnt have a receipt, it caused sum drama but in the end I got it.

The fact I bought 140 BluRays from them helped I suppose.

I looked at mine and the only number on the inner ring, data side is:

040001

Does this mean that mine is already the remastered version???

Also, thanks for posting this concise info. I sent my disc back Aug 2nd, but I'm sure your initial post has helped several. BTW, I haven't received a phone call either--wish I would've just swapped mine out in a store.
If you feel it would be useful I'll try and make a poll. I also want to thank the blu-ray forums members on here who kept making suggestions on what to put in my first post it would not have been half as informative without them

I agree, hooray for both of us

You'll want to look for something like NA********B1 or something like that and if the last two characters are B1 or R1 then you have the old version I believe.

Okay, now that some of the remasters are showing up at varoius B&M stores, THEY NEED TO RUN SALE ON IT (14.99 would be the perfect price!) Not one store has had Gladiator on sale since the remasters were manufactured. Weird, Target had Forrest Gump and the two Godfathers Sapphire Series on sale last week for 15.99, but NO Gladiator.

I FINALLY got a call back yesterday from my initial email I sent before the program was officially in place. I told the guy I already sent in my disk a couple weeks ago.

I exchanged mine at the Best Buy I originally purchased it at yesterday. The girl that was working at customer service recognized me and I was totally straight with her but she said that technically she couldn't do the exchange for that reason. So she told her supervisor that it would freeze when I tried to watch it and pushed the exchange through. I think I love her!

Someday soon someone is going to receive the exchange disc in the mail, and they're going to post it on here, and I'm going to be happy.

I didn't see anything wrong with my original Gladiator DVD, but I sent it in just the same. This remastered DVD version better be good! As long as it's not letterboxed and it is anamorphic, i'll be happy!

Nothing is technically wrong with the original release. However, when Universal produced the release for both themselves and Paramount/Dreamworks, Universal used an older HD master that had Digital Noise Reduction and Edge Enhancement applied to it.

Consumer complaints caused Universal to remaster the film and with Ridley Scott, a new 4k HD master was created and approved by Scott. This 4k remaster does not have DNR or EE applied to it. Universal has provided this 4k remaster to Paramount/Dreamworks.

Universal will call their new stock of the 4k remaster the "10th Anniversary Edition" while Paramount will continue to list this as a Sapphire Series release.

In the US, retailer inventory will be replenished by stock with a yellow UPC code. There are copies, as stated before, of the 4k remaster out there without the yellow UPC. Eventually, all stock will have the yellow UPC.

As for whether or not Amazon has it. That is hard to determine and you can take a chance on buying from Amazon or waiting at least six months (maybe longer, mayber shorter) for the old inventory to sell out.

In regards to the exchange program, I called on August 30th and was told it would take at least two weeks to processs the disc. So I am not expecting the replacement to show up until early September. This is in line with Universal UK's replacement program which informs consumers that there is a 30day window before the replacement is shipped out.
