Default Gladiator (Remastered) Exchange Program Thread

This thread is for those who will be using the Paramount or Universal exchange program to trade in their copy with defective video for the remastered one.

I have created this thread because the dedicated thread was getting a wee bit cluttered.

The first edition of Gladiator of which Universal held the rights to the master was plauged by Edge Enhancement (evidence by ghosting halos above the heads and bodies of characters) and Digital Noise Reduction (removal of film grain to such an extent that massive amounts of detail are lost) infact the DNR was so bad that the starting battle scene looked like the flaming arrows in the sky just vanish.

The remastered version was completed by Scott Free (Ridley Scott's company) and Universal a few months ago and looks stunning because they went in and scanned the original Super35 negatives frame by frame at 6K, re color graded it and applied NO DNR or EE easily making it the superior version.

Review of the original release with screenshots:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Gladi...y/4735/#Review

Original release will have the GLADIATOR title in gold font

Review of the remastered release with screenshots:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Gladi.../14649/#Review

Remastered release will have the GLADIATOR title in black font

Here are the address's of the two exchange centre's

UK:

Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd
'Gladiator Exchange'
Prospect House
80-110 New Oxford Street
London
WC1A 1HB

US and Canada:

PHE Mkt c/o Deluxe Media Management
P.O. Box 801464
Valencia, CA 91380-1464

Telephone number of Paramount: 888-889-9456 (Thanks to Westonian)

Email address's

UK: enquiriesuk@nbcuni.com
US: phe_customerservice@paramount.com

The operator will only want to confirm that you have the old disc, using the number on the inner ring of the disc (data side) so it's not entirely necessary.

I would take disc one and make a note of the number in the inner ring data side ( you would have to hold it in the light at a certain angle) it should be NA*****B1 or something like that. Then put the disc in a plastic sleeve or something to protect it and then put the disc in an envelope with a letter explaining that you want your disc replaced with the remastered version. Also put your name, address, telephone number and the disc number just to be safe, although I'm sure they'll see it when they look at the disc.

If you are looking for the new version of the sapphire series disk in shops it should have the 2 disc set text missing on the back of the coverart.

Hopefully this helps.

I'm from the UK and have taken a chance on shipping my import Sapphire series disk back to the US.

Luckily I got it back two weeks later remastered.

I am still patiently awaiting my Gladiator copy to be shipped back to me. Sent mine out on 8/2/2010, two weeks ago. By Paramounts estimate, should have it in about another 2 weeks. OH MY OH MY I can't wait to watch the beautiful GLORIOUS restored Gladiator on Blu!

I reckon you should probably update the first post with the addresses and shipping info. This would make for a good sticky. I shipped mine out on the 28th, still waiting impatiently.

EDIT: Actually I sent it out on the 31st, getting ahead of myself a bit. It's still been over two weeks since I sent it so hopefully I get it either this week or early next week. Hurry her up Paramount!

Sent mine back on July 31st and am still waiting. I imagine that they'll get the new disc to me before the end of October at this rate.

still waiting for mine as well.....was also sent 8/2.

i bought a remastered version on here for a co-worker and resisted the temptation to watch it before i gave it to him b/c i'm waiting for mine to show up.

i didn't want to rush into the viewing when i was tired or not interested....i want to give this new version my undivided attention.

Just think ozzsoad, once you do get it back, pop it in, and start watching... Judging by all of the reviews and the screenshots that I've seen, it'll TOTALLY be worth the wait...

Heh do you think Warner would ever rise to the challenge and do something like this in a screwed up future release?

Since you're updating the first post maybe you should say US and Canada.

I sent mine on the 4th and I try not to think about it too much.

Not sure how relevant Warner is to this issue.

I'm sure they would, just like every other studio has.

Just a thought, but an off topic one nonetheless. My apologies

You should add the instruction to the address in the OP for people too lazy to call the number.

Mail just disc 1 and include a paper with your name, address and phone number to the address listed.

Are we to send the disc with the case or use a sleeve?

I filled out the online form, They didn't tell me to send them my copy, but they asked for my address.

Did I miss a e-mail from them telling me where to send it to?

You are right I am too lazy to call the non existent number. Thanks for your help.

Edit: I found the number (888-889-9456) and spoke with the rep.

Well, let this be a lesson to ALL studios: mess with the fans, get burned.

Come to think of it, has there been any other instance in which a studio issues a recall/replacement program for a blu-ray that is technically not defective?
