Playstation Suite is bigger and more ambitious than I previously thought. Bodes really well for qriocity if said ambition is shared across the whole company and not just SNE.
It would be real intresting to see iOS and Microsoft allow PSS on their OS's. I'd say when hell freezes over. To me it seems like Kaz is taking the moral high ground in being open to them using it, when I think Microsoft with their stuborn mindedness would never bite.

iOS on the other hand I could see taking them up on the offer in the future. And of course I'm sure the Jailbreakers/Rooters will have it up and running on either of them before Sony does.

There is also talk of PSS moving over to Google TV.

So I think Sony have changed the entire playing field. They have the potential to bring the Playstation name and its classic games to millions of "casual" gamers that may only have ever played on things like iOS or Android. This may just be the smartest thing Sony has ever done.

And lets not forget that NGP is the first Playstation to be developed without Ken Kutaragi. So its no wonder devs are boasting of how easy it is to code. It's widely known that the poor launch of the PS3 and its hard to code for internals are the fault of Ken, hence why he steped down after PS3 launch and handed over to Kazuo Hirai. And the results already speak for themselves.

It's a great time to be a gamer

I am loving all the pictures that have come out.

We can now see the game media as slightly bigger than an SD card, I am assuming. What about the thickness? For all that an SD card can provide, it is still fragile. I am hoping that the game media on the NGP will be of more robust construction. The size of the slots on the top should be an indicator.

It'll be interesting to see, Apple apparently doesn't allow 3rd party stores on iOS and MS most likely will want to push Live on WM7 instead of allowing PS there, especially considering MS has said that WM7 is their mobile/handheld game strategy.

Also, I can't help but have a gut feeling that Gears of War:Exile (trademarked just this month) is a NGP game. Epic is really high up on the device and, along with Rein's recent words and them obviously wanting to push UE3 to other publishers, why not push it with their most powerful and successful franchise?

I did read an interview where it was quoted by Microsoft that Live on WM7 is their handheld. I also cant wait to see Microsoft anounce the specs for their next home console. It will be a bittersweet day when they anounce they are using a BD drive

But I think like you said about iOS and WM7, Kaz has nothing to lose by ebraceing them, as the likelyness is they would decline. It just makes Sony look good, and if they did accept then even better. It really is a win win situation for Sony.

I didnt know about the Gears trademark. And Epic's statements about NGP really stuck out in my mind reading the live blogs. I think you could be on to a winner with what you said.

i almost hate to bring this up, but it's been bothering me..

if the psp2 can do software emulation of psp games, and ps3 games can be ported to it with a weeks worth of work, what's stopping sony from porting popular ps2 games?

or is this one of those deals where they don't think its financially worth it? because it sure doesn't seem like it's a technological problem

Technically nothing. With that in mind I expect the HD Collections now on PS3 to be rolled out for NGP as well, maybe not in 1080p or 720p, but certainly in 960x544.

It is a huge market for Sony to sell you the same game over and over again, I must have bought FF7 and FF8 about 4 or 5 times each by now! I'm sure it will be more once they do compilation HD collections and remakes!

I think they see more profit from releasing the HD collections. If they started releasing emulated ps2 games on either NGP or PS3 then they would be competing with themselves.

Maybe the HD Collections(God of War, Sly, Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia) will be ported to the NGP?

Edit: Thousand of people beat me to it...

In Gravity Daze the character you appear to play transforms from this:

to this sort of dark Yorda, x-ray style but you can only see the limb bones:

It's intriguing.

Yeah but then technically Sony can't call them "HD" collections? Its false advertisement. Would need to be at least 720p.

HD is mostly a buzz word this gen. If you check out Digital Foundry and their in depth reviews of games its surprising how many dont run at 720p.

Seems like my gut feeling was wrong:

@MarkRein Mark Rein
@xXTrbekXx @therealcliffyb it means NGP, by virtue of its dual analog sticks, is suited to games like Gears but Gears itself is only on 360
Would've been nice, but oh well, we'll still have plenty of AAA games on NGP.

I think that Duke Nukem Forever would be great for the NGP.

It seems that out of the official specs, the ram isn't stated in final detail.

I'm thinking that it is still being finalized.
