who actually doesn't order a bluray based on the looks of the cover - come on... seriousily?

has anyone read anything online of the Fox 'French' release, specs, running time, english subs? - is it the European cut of the film???

This movie was done when Tangerine Dream was on a roll doing movie scores. If William Freidkin had know about TD when he made The Exorcist, he would have used them instead of Mike Oldfield. TD was contracted to re-write the score for Legend after the American test audience appeared unimpressed with the first score.

For other TD scores check out "Sorcerer", "The Park is Mine", "Thief", and of course "Risky Business".

Well, I've seen people buy movies just for awesome slipcovers or not buy something because of a horrible cover or because it's a digibook (or not a digibook). Which, whatever, to each their own. But, nothing should be surprising when it comes to enthusiasts.
I do wish the cover art was better, but I personally am more concerned about the content.
It looks like for this release they're probably going to carry over the content from the previous release, which is good, considering it probably would have been easy for Universal just to crank out either the theatrical or director's cut, as opposed to both.

It's possible that's the final cover. Remember the blu-ray cover for the original Tron?

I would bet that the cover is final but that the Fonts etc are a bit too big and are only for online listings etc so they are easy for consumers to read. I would guess the fonts sizes will change but that is the cover art.

I wish Universal or Scott still had David Bennett's original voice tracks for the film. I would rather hear them than the dubbed voice.

That is a terrible cover for sure...

It should look something like this:

Tim Curry MADE that movie.

I would like to see Ridley Scott do a remastering similar to Blade Runner and with the Original Tangerine Dream score with either Lossless or DTS-HD.

When was the last time a fantasy movie used people in make-up instead of CGI? Hellboy? Tim Curry's Darkness is just another reminder that costumes and make-up is better and more realistic than CGI crap.

Well, Rick Baker did just win the Oscar for The Wolfman's make-up (and I did think the make-up was wonderful though sadly underused)...but there was some bad CGI in there too. Wish they had stuck with all make-up, as well as put more into the story.

But I totally agree with you that practical special effects make-up almost always is MUCH better! I'm old school and prefer the tangible nature of it, seeing light bounce off someone's face or little nuances in the eyes, innumerable subtleties in facial expressions just cannot be reproduced 100% in CGI (let alone cheesy CGI that's just about everywhere now)

If cover art didn't factor in peoples buying habits, studios wouldn't be so insistent on giving us such crappy covers.

It is a sad reality, but a reality nonetheless.

We, the so-called discriminating consumers of blu-ray, do not represent the "joe average" buyer for whom studios target most of their releases. They know people like you and me, who have a previous knowledge of the movie and are waiting for it to be released, will most likely buy this or any other title we are interested, no matter the cover, so their covers are intended to attract all those casual buyers who are not interested beforehand, and somehow, their marketing surveys have determined that this kind of ugly, photoshopped floating heads cover art is the best way to do so.

I for one am very curious to know what the specs of the bluray are, I know the director's cut should great and I assume the US theatrical cut, since that's what was shown on HDNet Movies - and it was damn impressive, I'm hoping the audio for the US cut with T. Dream's score is 5.1 this go around since the DVD wasn't (I'm sure 5.1 soundmasters exist since the US cut was theatrically released in both 35mm and 70mm blowup with 6-track surround sound)
