Good thing for Everyone ELSE, who loved the movie & gave it close to the $450M Worldwide Box Office, then, huh?

It was never a movie I would link Kenneth Branagh to, but he did a fine job. I hope this new director can keep the overall atmosphere similar. Thor was a sleeper hit with me.

Rumors abound that Marvel may be considering getting Patty Jenkins(Monster) to direct the sequel:

Quote:
Marvel Studios is getting close to naming a director for Thor 2, and I’m hearing they might go with a surprise: Patty Jenkins, best known for directing Charlize Theron to an Oscar in Monster, and also for directing the superb pilot for AMC’s The Killing. This would be a real surprise, because women directors aren’t usually high on the list for superhero movies. Let’s see how this plays out, but it looks pretty serious. Kenneth Branagh directed the original.

This is all expected to happen soon. Marvel and Disney have set a July 26, 2013 release date for the sequel, which brings back Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-wielding superhero, and Thor co-writer Don Payne is writing the script. The original grossed $448 million worldwide and launched the star of Hemsworth.

Patty Jenkins does seem like an odd choice, but I thought the same thing when Branagh took the job. He seemed to make a little more sense with his dramatic background. Besides the acclaimed Monster, the only reason why this choice does not worry me is that Marvel has made very few mistakes* my my mind. I trust them to make the right choices.

*I do not think they are to be blamed for the entirety of the mistakes and so far none of the mistakes have hurt films.

Given his penchant for Shakespeare, Brannagh was an obvious choice. Jenkins, on the other hand, is "interesting".

Kevin Feige confirming the premise of the sequel and more on Jenkins possibly directing:

Quote:
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told EW that plans were developing fast for the sequel, which he said would “take Thor literally to other worlds.” While moviegoers will next see Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-swinging hero in The Avengers next May, Thor 2 would “primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds,” Feige said.

The Nine Worlds are the different planes of existence, of which Earth is one, that Thor and his Asgardian brethren recognize. It’s part of a push to expand the cosmic side of the Marvel Comics universe, which includes many more intergalactic heroes and villains.

There was no official confirmation from Marvel about Jenkins, but several sources close to the project said talks are ongoing.

Though much attention will be paid to the fact that Thor will be getting a woman’s touch, no one who saw Monster or The Killing can accuse Jenkins of being soft. If anything, Thor may actually be facing much rougher treatment this time around if Jenkins gets the job.

I'm just thrilled that Tom Hiddleston will be returning. I could care less about the others. They could replace Chris Hemsworth with a drunken monkey and I wouldn't notice.

Really? I thought Chris Hemsworth embodied the character very well. He also showed a pretty good range in the film between his boastful and arrogant way's in the beginning to his downfall (especially the scene when Loki visits him on Earth. There are a couple minor things that could have been slightly better IMO with different takes, but over-all I thought he was definitely good. That is just my opinion though.

I do think Hiddleston stole pretty much every scene he was in.

I absolutely love Hiddleston in the film, but replace Hemsworth?
