Why shouldn't it play?
The disc seems to be region free, so it should work.

I don't know. I guess I'm paranoid...not technically savvy either.
This is copied/pasted from ASIN: B000E33W1W

Region: Region 1 encoding (US and Canada only)
PLEASE NOTE: Some Region 1 DVDs may contain Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE). Some, but not all, of our international customers have had problems playing these enhanced discs on what are called "region-free" DVD players. For more information on RCE, click .

This warning is common on Sony DVD titles. Blu ray is a Sony technology, so it wouldn't too terribly surprise me to discover something hindering playback of something Sony feels sour to know exists...

That's additional protection for region locked DVDs (not Blu-rays), so that they "shouldn't" play in DVD players, that were modified to be region free. That protection didn't work most of the time anyway, and it's about cases, where the disc is actually region locked and isn't supposed to work in players from another region, which isn't the case of Candyman.

That's a good point. I don't trust Sony either. But in this case it's a region free Blu-Ray. It's meant to work in all players.

If i understand correctly, it's only some seconds more of gory shots.

Oh, I thought it was more than that. I'll have to check the movie censorship site.

It's not hard to come by via Amazon these days, by the way.

For anyone who missed it, Bernard Rose recorded a commentary for the film with Adam Green and Joe Lynch on their podcast last week.

Watched this blu last night; no complaints. Seems like a solid, faithful presentation. Nice bump in detail, more vibrant color, along with a very stable image. The source is apparently in great condition, though they may have ponied up for some dirt and damage removal. It's very clean. Nice grain, nothing waxy. From the look of the occasional soft shot, I'd say it traces back to the source; the transfer has no problem being razor sharp when fine detail is available. I might have preferred opening up the matte to fill the 16:9 frame--the new German release does this--but the theatrical ratio ought to please the purists.

Audio's fine; a very rich and robust 2.0 lossless track.

I never grouse about missing extras. It's about the film, man...and in this case it probably looks and sounds about as good as it could.

I found a copy in London and I have to agree. It looks and sounds good even though it's a VC-1. I'm not upset about the lack of extras because, like yourself, I don't care too much for extras these days. They're all the same, more or less. I just want faithful, HD presentations and no B.S.

I'm glad I picked it up!

Likewise; it was nice to have a good, region free option after being taken aback at the lack of an official region A/1 release.

The score is spectacular in this movie. Really pushes it to another level.
