After watching this bluray transfer of The Birds last night, I was REALLY impressed. The picture is crisp, sharp and the colors pop, but not TOO bold, just right. Sound is rich and clean.

The ONLY drawback is the weird cover art. I would have preferred the Movie Poster over this face in the birds artwork. But, I'm very satisfied with this release and glad I picked it up.

Here is a link to a comparison of the UK Blu-ray and the US DVD using screenshots. It's pretty easy to see why the the Blu-ray is a huge improvement:

Just to make sure, the content (transfer, bit rate etc.) is the same on the US and UK BD, right?

So this is a limited edition? I can't find this one on amazon.co.uk for a normal price for months. Is there another version coming soon? With different extra's? Just what is so special about the 50th anniversary edition?

Seems just the packaging...still should be available in HMV or Fopp if there's one near you. Got mine in their 3 for £20 offer.

The Birds has always looked a bit ropey, no pun intended.

There is another Blu-ray of the "The Birds" out in the UK but I don't know how it compares to the 50th anniversary in PQ or Extras.

Resurrecting an old thread, but finally managed to get this off the Bay for just over a £10, minty slip and art card included!

I haven't been able to find this for a decent price since its original release. Sometimes limited really does mean limited. What d'ya know?

Funnily enough, you reminded me to have a look for this again. Not for the slip particularly but because I wanted certain films as singles as I still have the Masterpiece DVD set and there are a few I'm not overly bothered about upgrading. Anyway, looked around and none available at decent prices then there it was, with slip and art card in VGC at my local CEX for £6. Thankfully their stickers come off without any nonsense.

The massive amount of process work means that the only way it's ever going to look pristine would be if you dug out all the original elements (assuming they even survive, which has to be a long shot) and did all the compositing all over again. Which, let's face it, is wildly unlikely to happen.

It didn't look great even in 35mm.

I own a copy of the OOP 50th anniversary edition, and I thought it was odd that Universal didn't subsequently release another standalone version.

Anyway... I was in HMV Brighton last week and noticed they had a copy of The Birds with this cover:

After looking at a number of online retailers (including HMV's website) I couldn't find any trace of a new release... strange!.
