I'm going to blind buy strangers. Heard good things about and I love Psycho.

The page also lists Strangers aspect ratio as "1.77 to 1", it should read 1.37 to 1. (the Academy Ratio that all Hollywood films were shot in up to the early fifties)
The back of the BD's case lists the video as 1080p 1.37 to 1. ![]() Thanks for the corrections. ![]() |

So put in a correction (edit). I had put in one about the sound a few days ago. You will get a credit for making such corrections.

![]() ![]() Yep: ADDITION: Warner - Region FREE - Blu-ray (September 2012): Firstly, the longer British version is here (called the 'Preview Version') as an extra but only in 480i and seems to be the same transfer as the last 2-disc DVD (also taking up about 6.5 Gig). That is effin BS! I am surprised at Warner for doing this. ![]() Last edited by BluPat; 09-26-2012 at 07:29 PM. |

It is not a British cut (this was never released there or anywhere else as an official version) but a preview cut and it only amounts to about 2 minutes more overall. Not anything to get too worked up over. I do wonder why they couldn't use branching to have both cuts in HD. This version adds a few lines early on but because the final short scene is missing it feels sort of unfinished. Dial M For Murder review up on DVDBEAVER, as well. Another strong looking transfer, although they have the aspect ratio incorrectly listed as 1.33:1, when the screen caps clearly show the correct theatrical aspect ration of 1.85:1. Not ALL hollywood films were only shot Academy aspect ratio until the early 50s there were a small number of films shot & screened in select theatres in wider 70mm formats in the late 20s and early 1930s.

True . . . but very few. And they were hardly shown in their widescreen formats. For example, The Big Trail (1930) was shot in a wide process called Grandeur -- but it only screened in that format in two theaters in the entire country -- one in Hollywood, one in New York. Everywhere else the alternate Academy ratio version was shown. Theaters weren't equipped to show widescreen films then. That's why early 70mm films like The Big Trail and The Bat Whispers were also shot in 1:37, and that's how the overwhelming majority of movie goers saw them projected.
