Yea, I was thinking the same thing when he posted that. Out of the four I've posted, they've all had logos except, as you pointed out, Serenity. And I've actually redone Serenity to include both logos and the blu-ray bar across the top. I'm not sure if I want to keep the bar though. I'm sort of a fan of just clean images as covers. I'll post it in a bit once I get it figured out and printed. I'm running out to Best Buy first though. And I might pick up some matte photo paper while I'm out to try that.

just make sure it's a thicker matte paper. i'm kind of taking a break from the slips till i can find a more suitable paper to print them. anything with any kind of gloss to it will produce amazing results, but will also have fingerprints galore. something matte would be the best, but from what i've seen so far, a good bit of the matte stuff is too thin. i just looked at some matte paper at wally world earlier and it was 6.5 mil, which is just a bit thicker than regular paper, so i ruled that out. i'm thinking it'll have to be close to 9.5 mil or higher.

Agreed. I was thinking of trying something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006B7PY

I'm still researching though. It seems like the hardest part of this is actually "perfecting" the process. Once you get a printer that works and figure out what kind of paper you want to settle on, it should be smooth sailing.

that stuff is 179gsm. i have some paper here that's 180gsm and it's a decent thickness. not as thick as the card stock, but not really thin either. the stuff i have here is HP Brochure Paper and is what i actually use to print my custom cover art on.

This is a really stupid question, but do we actually know what they use for actual slipcovers?

the real slips are probably made of some kind of regular thick cardboard. the thing is that the real slips aren't printed the way we print, so the companies don't exactly look at the papers in the same way we do. we can't really try to find the same stuff they use since we don't have the same equipment they do.

the thing is try and find a happy medium. something thick enough to not tear easily and something that's going to field great printing results, especially for super small text. of course what type printer you have will also come into play as the better the printer the better the image will turn out. i've got an Epson Artisan 730 which has a maximum print resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi.

Yea, I understand. I'm not too far behind you (or ahead of you, depending on how you read it - I'm not really sure of the technical details of dpi). I'm using a Brother J435W (6000 x 1200 dpi), mainly because it was only $49.99 at Best Buy last week and the ink is stupid cheap. Seriously - I got a box of 20 high-yield cartridges (8xBK, 4xC, 4xM, 4xY) from Amazon for $13.45, and they're surprisingly not shit. Here's the review roundup:

So the ultra low-cost printing allots me a certain degree of screwing around I can get away with to try to perfect my methods. It's actually kind of funny because paper is going to cost me more than the ink will, most likely.

yep, i can print all i want to as well. i'm using what they call a Continuous Ink System. the system itself was about $45 shipped, but the refills are stupid cheap (about $15 for 600ml of ink). i literally only buy ink about twice a year. i had an Epson Stylus R280 for several years before i bought this Artisan 730 and had a CIS on it as well until the printer just crapped out on me.

And nobody has done the most obvious custom slip yet, which is one I've wanted to do for a while. I'll eventually try and get it designed, but until then, I'm not going to say what it is unless somebody guesses correctly.
I agree. While all of these custom slips look great if I started making them I would at least put the studio logos and such on the spines. That way when they're displayed on the shelf they would at least somewhat match other slips.
I definitely think you guys need to take a que from the cover art folks and add the logos on the spines, but I'm still impressed with the amount of work you've put into each of your slips. Thank you for sharing and I'll second the love for the Serenity slip. Very nice, can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeves.

Ummm...yeah, I wasn't the first one that mentioned it. I was the last and agreeing with what had been said judging by the last slip I saw. I'm not busting anyone's balls here and I don't think anyone else is either. Clearly you guys have the mad skills and I'm loving it. Hell, I've thought about contacting you guys to make a couple of customs for the one's missing slips in my collection. Keep up with hard work and thanks for sharing

lol, it's all good man, wasn't trying to start anything, was just saying. if someone else commented on the spines not having logo's, it would have had to be about will's slips because all of mine and all of enigma's except Serenity had the logo's on them.

Has anyone done a Flash Gordon slip? I'm considering picking this up finally on BD and might need to commission someone to make one for me.

I could see what I could whip together. I take it toxsic isn't interested (based on the fact that you were already in contact with him and are still asking here)?

So what kind of printers is everyone using?

I'm looking into getting a new printer and any suggestions would be great.

I'm going to just quote my post from a half-dozen posts up so I don't have to retype it.
