It didn't used to IP check because I remember signing into the Japanese stores for demos more than once early on. They might have changed that in firmware however, I cannot say because I pretty much never play games anymore.

I will tell you the PS3 sucks as a DVD player, if that's what your after. A $50 player off the shelf has ten times better upscaling.

Default multi zone dvd on a region a bluray?

Hi, I'm an Australian trying to purchase a better quality region A bluray player than the laser brand one I currently have, and was planning on buying a Sony or Samsung player from Amazon, but none of them seem to offer multi zone DVD. I'm perfectly happy with region a bluray, but have many region 1,2, and 4 DVDs, and was hoping they would be playable. Are there any non hacked ones available?

I already have a region 1 dvd player, it's more for the BD playback I want it for. Thanks for your reply anyway.

No problem. The blu ray playback was fine in my experience.

Like I said I used to download fine from other region's stores and such, but google to make sure they haven't patched that out the last few years.

That second one I think is only multi region DVD, not multi region Blu-Ray. And it seems like it's Region B blu ray, unless I'm missing something.

My Orei BDP-M2 is functioning perfectly. While there is no form of "SOURCE DIRECT" mode, the vast majority of discs I play are not both 1080i50 and region locked, my Pioneer Elite BDP-62FD plays ABC 1080i50 Blu-rays and converts to 1080i60 on the fly and also plays Region 0 PAL DVDs converting to 1080i60 on the fly so this works for most items.

When i have something region locked I just throw it in the Orei.

Since alakazak indicated he is only interested in multi-region DVD and since he indicated he has a region A BD player, I included that item in list.

What's great of the BDP-S6200 is it's a continuance of the BDP-S790 which is excellent at upscaling DVD. I can confirm that as I have the S790.

I'm thinking about picking up the OREI BDP-M2 from amazon, but I need little bit of a push.

EDIT: Or maybe this one. Anyone have any feedback on it?

I'm finally going multi-region! After years of being restricted to playing region B/free discs I'll soon be able to play anything Have just ordered the Sony BDP-S1100 player which plays Blu-rays & dvds from all regions. Have also put in my first order for a bunch of region A locked discs; The Wolf of Wall Street, Anatomy of a Murder, and Monsoon Wedding.

I just took the region free plunge myself, I'll have the Orei BDP-M2 arriving on Tuesday so I could post some thoughts after I give it a try.

Is there a list of all of the best region free players that are plug and play with nothing else needed for someone in the US? I plan to buy steelbooks from other countries and want to make sure I can play them no matter where they came from.

I see the Orei BDP-M2 on Amazon (out of stock currently) that looks promising that others have talked about.

My Insignia NS-BRDVD4 died recently. So I just took the plunge and ordered the Orei which is back in stock on Amazon. I looked up Blu-ray players at Bombay and 220 Electronics, but some players had conflicting information between both sites.

The main features I wanted, besides being region A/B/C capable, was having an optical out port and the ability to play 50i content. I had to research pictures of the backs of players to get a definitive answer on the optical port. It seems very few players have them anymore. Ended up going with the Orei due to all the positive reviews and the price point. I ordered from Amazon just in case I get a dud since their return process is hassle free.

My Insigina NS-BRDVD4 didn't like The Wolverine Blu-ray. Can anyone with the Orei confirm if it can play it?
:update:
The Orei plays The Wolverine just fine. I'm surprised by how fast this thing loads movies.

My Sony S5100 from Global Electronics has been awesome so far. I updated the firmware and it still plays Region B Blu-rays and it played my region 4 PAL DVDs.

I completely avoided the Sony players when researching them. Do you know if it will play UK 50i content?

You have to buy a hardware modified version.

So i just bought my first Region free blu ray player. It plays A,B,and C.

Model is: Sony BDP-S5100

If i connect the player to the internet so that i can download the latest firmware and such... Will this effect the region free availability in the player?

I am scared to do any firmware upgrades on it. Any advice? I am new to region free players so i would appreciate the help!

Thanks!

A firmware update shouldn't affect the region free aspect of the player given that the Sony players require a permanent hardware modification. Just make sure the player is in it's native region code (presuming Region A) when you install the firmware update.
