So far both directors for Eps 7-8 have worked on the screenplays and I expect the same to happen here. Ugh.

And as the previous poster said, this is supposed to be the last episode of the saga. It deserves a lot better.
No it is not. They already said they plan another trilogy with these new actors.

Honestly I didn't mind it when he was rumored to direct Episode VII, Safety Not Guaranteed was at least interesting. But now after Jurassic World I'm not that excited of what he'll be working on anymore, especially this being a very important episode in the Star Wars Saga. I hope this is not true.

There was problems with the script of Jurassic World, but the directing was quite good. Plenty of cool shots, and the film had a good visual style. Colin will not be the sole writer of 9 either, so that should put that fear to bed.

Yes.

Ugh.

I get that a lot of people liked Jurassic World but at the very least even they have to admit the direction wasn't the reason. And as for my personal opinion, that movie was so tonally inconsistent it gave me seizures. I can't stomach the idea of a Star Wars movie with the same problem.

Bottom line... he would not have gotten this job if they had any doubts that he couldn't do it.
Disney need to recoup their money on the franchise. Trevorrow recently handled a big brainless franchise movie.

That's the only consideration in the decision. I'll probably watch Episode VII and leave it there.

I think it's Kathleen Kennedy who picked him (if this is true). Think about it.

So we're only a few steps away from Renny Harlin directing a Star Wars film I guess!

Crap. I was hoping they'd hire that guy who directed Up the Sandbox, S*P*Y*S, and Robocop 2.

For me, hey, it's SW. They can have a monkey direct it and as long as it has:
  • Light sabers
  • Jedi
  • Sith
  • Cool space battles
  • Weird/funny CGI characters
  • A skywalker

Then I'm watching in the theater, and buying them to watch at home!

:-)

I'm mainly joking... I don't think they will mess up SW... I guess I feel they will do their best to keep the same style/feel and keep making $$$.

What's the problem? The third movie in the original trilogy was an uninspired marketing exercise helmed by a malleable journeyman director, so this sounds about right.

I'm fine with this, if he really is directing it. I thought he did pretty well on JW, and most of the things that bothered people about that movie won't apply in this case anyway. Plus he has more experience directing big budget productions now, which Episode IX should benefit from. If he delivers something pretty poor, well, it can't be worse than the prequels anyway.

All of you already convinced this will be the worst of the trilogy because of this, wouldn't it be poetic in a way since Jedi was a noticeable step down from the previous two movies in that trilogy?

What about combining Star Wars and Jurassic World together, so you get lightsaber action and everyone gets eaten by a dinosaur on the new and improved Endor with dinosaurs and ewoks.
