According to the back of that cover, the aspect ratio is 2:35.1. The aspect ratio for the US release is 1:85.1. Is this release really in that AR or is that an error?

It has to be an error, the 1:85.1. is the original ratio.

It's a misprint, it's 1.85:1

I'm seeing this on Oct 12 at the Hillhead Grovenor in Glasgow, they're showing Hardware, StageFright, Frankenhooker, Carrie and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre on an all night horrorfest, Texas Chainsaw is a 35mm print and there is one other that is a print, I'm hoping it is Carrie.

Was on the brink buying this at my local store...(had it in my hands) but held back since i have not seen anything about the transfer (if this is an MPEG-2 transfer, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT IN 2013????)

They showed Halloween on a 35 mm print last year but I wasn't there, this is my first time at the event.

I'm hoping it is a new encode, I've seen the US blu ray and thought it looked ok without a restoration but I think it could look a little better with a fresh encode.

My UK version just dispatched.

Haven't been updated recently, did this new UK version carry over the extras from the 2-disc Special Edition DVD?

I sure hope it's a new encode.

The upcoming German and Japanese releases are reported to be identical to the new Australian disc which is the same encode as the U.S release just with more extras, Fox aren't going give the UK any better than any of the other countries that are getting this release for the first time over the next couple of months

OK, so same obsolete mpeg-2 transfer as on the US disc, plus all of the old extras?

Hmm, still for me it should be an upgrade all the same as I only own that 2-DVD edition.

Theatrical Trailer
Theatrical Trailer (2013)

Not checked the encode yet, pretty sure it'll be the same Mpeg-2 job though, will update later if nobody beats me to it!

Edit: - yep! Mpeg-2 (not an issue though)

Another cheapo MGM release with no menu other than the pop up one. The film just starts again when it ends.

It's quite good for MPEG-2, and even though I won't watch them, at least it's superior to the U.S release with the addition of the extras for those who want and care about them

Just saw this on Saturday night at the Horror Madness at the Hillhead Grosvenor in Glasgow, it was a 35 mm print and was a little red but looked great all the same, it had the pops and speckles here and there which added to the authenticity (It was like being transported in a time machine back to 76)

I can say judging from that print that the colours of the blu ray are close to accurate.
