Is the story and characters not the the same as the original? Looks the same story going by IMDB. Will it be more like a Friday 13th remake...not much like the original film? |

Psycho (1960) is an adaptation of the Robert Bloch novel. Psycho (1998) was a remake of that movie and in no way another adaptation of the novel. |

It seems like a small distinction but everyone seems to call a lot of things remakes (the US version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for example) when it's simply that someone else had had a go at translating the book to the screen. And that, to me, is fair game. Remaking a film, I can see why people get up in arms about, even if there are a handful of great remakes. But having someone else be given a chance to adapt a previously adapted work is fine. Just because someone else got there first shouldn't stop others being able to do their take on the material, regardless of how the first version turned out. Look at how many Dickens adaptations there have been over the years. I say this fully accepting that the original film version of Carrie is a classic and I find it very hard to imagine how Carrie 2013 will match it. |

I agree, I think some may have been harder on the transfer than they needed to be. it is for sure a tricky HD upgrade since the film uses a lot of filters on specific shots etc... so much of it has a soft look. It would be nice if it is in fact a new HD transfer with MPEG-4 or VC since I think the original US Blu is MPEG-2.

I will definitely pick this up if it has a better transfer. To me, the FOX/MGM US release sucks. Some scenes are too bright. Others soft. I understand that the softness may be due to original elements but, the transfer as a whole could have been a lot better. And hopefully this UK release uses the original poster artwork.

I might get this if the film is still an '18', as for some strange reason, I want the '18' certificate displayed on my Blu-ray of this movie (as I recall, I saw it first in the UK, so maybe that's why). However, if it gets re-classified to '15' (which I doubt, but the BBFC can surprise), I will wait, unless there are extras and no US re-release.

The rating shouldn't really matter, although I get what you mean.
Friday the 13th Part VI Jason Lives, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master and even The Terminator were all downgraded from 18 to 15 for DVD/Blu-ray. |

The Godfather and Total Recall both got certified as 15s on their most recent classifications too. It's just down to tastes changing. It's not always downwards though - Jaws is now a 12 after being a PG for decades. |

That's the same reason a lot of these are reclassified (e.g. Total Recall). They had cinema re-releases which means it has to be looked at and reclassified again, whereas a lot of these films have stayed the certificate they have been for ages because of being simple reissues of already classified material. Gremlins for example, was classified as a 15 for video (it was a 12 at the cinema) because at the time there was no 12 certificate for home video (see the first two Batmans as well - the first video to be classified as a 12 was, I believe, Ace Ventura in 1994). Although there is now a 12 certificate for home media, and has been for years, it has always been a 15 on video because that was its most recent classification, even up to the blu-ray release. Having just had a cinema re-release and having been resubmitted for it, it has now had its certificate reduced back down to a 12 and this will be reflected in any future home releases.
