First time i watched it I noticed that. Funny how only the boarded up window looked pixalated/blurry n that shot must be an encoding error. If you watch the DC that shot is fine though.

Doesn't it take away from a certain cinematic feel or too clean an edition that it might even show flaws on make- up or anything else that might pop up? I know there are certain films I would appreciate to see a blu- ray edition on, but I also think it takes away a sense of illusion by it looking too good! I notice this in particular with Horror films like A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET or HELLRAISER...
May I refer you to Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia?

Director's intent. Friedkin says the new scan looks as he saw it through the lens. It's a huge statement to make. And it certainly has peaked my curiosity.

He said that for the previous digibook release too with a note inside the digibook. I dont see any difference in PQ and I may be wrong but it may have some new extras. According to me its the same old gimmick to sell it again.

I'm in for a double dip if, and only if, they release the entire anthology series to go with it. if only so that I can finally get Exorcist III: Legion on blu ray. I could wish for the director's cut of that, but at this point, I know that's near impossible.

Pretty much my thoughts. We'll just have to wait and see.

I have the digibook but have only watched the theatrical version; does the extended version have better PQ?

PQ is a tiny bit better. The 5.1 remix on the DC will make you jump.

I really hope they release the whole anthology, Exorcist III is fantastic and I enjoy it almost as much as the first, could live without II and the Beginning but if an Anthology boxset is the only way to get 3 then i'll bite

When I interviewed Friedkin, he actually tried to drop the responsibility for the first release on firmware, saying, "we saw when we got the final discs that there was a note inside the case saying 'this disc may not look right on your tv,'" and claimed he made 20th Century Fox redo the Blu based on that, clearly not understanding that the note related to firmware, or that firmware could not affect the way the disc looks. I love Friedkin's movies, and he was really, really generous and nice in the interview, but...I'm not sure he has a sense of his own shortcomings.

Does anybody know if the current blu was scanned at 4k as well or that it was only a 2k scan?

Oh right, thanks for the info. It's definitely one of the better 2k scans out there but the new one should have more fine detail and a better grain structure if it's getting rescanned at 4k, this could turn out to be a fantastic release. I hope warner use the avc encode instead of vc-1 this time as well.

I noticed that but it was only on the thatrical version,it looked like the window board had been added by very crude cgi.

I hope the new release is better but the original blu-ray release will be tough to beat by any considerable margin,i will end up buying it as it's one of my favorite movies.

I hope the full uncut version of the fear of god documentary is included in this set. All previous home video releases since 1998 when it aired (25th anniversary dvd & vhs and even the current blu ray, "the version you've never seen" dvd didn't have it) have had shortened versions of the documentary. The full length of the documentary is 90mins and this cut was only aired once on the bbc. The shortened versions which were 74 and 52mins long, deleted some of the interviews and had some little edits and alterations done to them. It such a good documentary and I really want to see the full uncut version.

I know this is an old post, but thanks for talking about this. Watched the Theatrical Cut and it was stunning, but when that shot at the end popped up I went like this: and thought it was something to do with my TV not being set properly or something.
