Not if JJ Abrams is involved. Then it would be called "Star Trek Into Mudd" or "Mudd on Your Star Trek".

I think that would be a great idea.

Default Rumors swirl that J.J. Abrams is dropping out of directing Star Wars: Episode VII.

Quote:
"I'd love to have J.J. back. We're still talking to Paramount about what the scheduling might be and if we can all do it together again, but yeah I read that too and I was like, 'Whoa, does [Quinto] know something I don't? I'd better call him.' He owes me a call."

Zachery Quinto did say the other day that J.J. is in fact directing Star Trek 3.. and with this news it looks like he knows something we don't

The J.J. rumors were already debunked. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see J.J. try and finish his trilogy here, as well as directing 'Episode VII'. But then again, he doesn't like how hindered he was by the rights owners with the series, so maybe he'll just stay on as producer after all. Only time will tell.

Quinto slipped at CC and now this article comes out today, I think they are just keeping things quiet for now.. J.J. will return I have a feeling

I almost guarantee he will, but I also think he'll do Episode VII. I really think he'll want to finish what he started with this series, while starting things off on a huge note for returning 'Star Wars' to what the fans have been hoping to see for years. It makes sense to me.

I want him to finish what he started, but at the same time, I don't want him to rush it to get the mega payday that is Star Wars. I'd rather have a great Star Trek with another director than have a rushed product with Abrams.

he's made Paramount Bank so far in ST and ST2.. they will offer him whatever they can to bring him back and Quinto already said they won't be waiting a long time for sequels.. they want to start making them every 2-3 years.. which is great! keeps people excited and interested in more stories. Paramounts Star Trek is Disney's Marvel and Fox's X-men Sony's Spiderman..

Definitely agreed. I think the only other series Paramount really has is 'Mission: Impossible', and those are every five years or so. Big gaps between each film, usually.

I agree. I think we can get two more out of him though before that series is over. At least, I hope.

Lots of people should be happy, looks like they are looking to bring in fresh blood to write the next movie.

Does Transformers count or is that more Dreamworks?

They do want to make Beverly Hills Cop IV now.

Don't forget Universal and their Fast and the Furious franchise.

But yeah, J.J. is known for doing like a half a dozen projects at once. I'm sure he'll be willing and able to jump right back into the Enterprise with out a break. I mean back when the second one was being made he said he was only going to produce - then he was like "Fine I'll do it".

I mean they could stop now, and I would be satisfied with the two movies that were made. But they got to make one more. It will be the 50th anniversary for crying out loud.

Sorry but for me MI: Ghost Protocal was so boring. So I hope Brad Bird is kept well away. Did like the Iron Giant.

There's no way Abrams comes back to this unless Disney is will to move the release date of Episode VII to 2016 and apparently that's not an option.

There's just no way he could get this done.

Default Star Trek 3 (2016)

From Hollywood Reporter:
Quote:
Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci to Write Next 'Star Trek'
by Tatiana Siegel

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will boldly go where they've gone before. The two are in negotiations to write the next Star Trek outing for Paramount and Skydance Productions. The duo co-wrote the previous two installments for director J.J. Abrams, who is in negotiations to produce Star Trek 3 through his Bad Robot shingle. Damon Lindelof also shared writing credit on this summer's Star Trek Into Darkness. Sources say Lindelof will not be back for the third chapter of the rebooted franchise.

Some tidbits from Latino Review. Remember, they were the ones who broke the story of who the villain for Into Darkness really was --- loooong before anyone else:
Quote:
Jon Chu: Top Contender To Direct ‘Star Trek 3′
by Kellvin Chavez

Paramount wants “Star Trek 3″ in theaters in 2016, which means it would coincide with the 50th anniversary of the launch of the 1966 television show.

Back in May our very own ‘El Mayimbe’ tweeted that he heard “Attack The Block” director Joe Cornish was on a list of contenders up for the gig. Other rumors, although unconfirmed, had Justin Lin and Brad Bird as possibilities as well.

A few days ago, I was told that there was one person so far on top of the list. Ready trekkies? That person is “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” director Jon M. Chu.

I waited on this because I wanted to confirm this and all I got was “no comment” and another source said “he’s a contender.” Not surprising considering Chu’s relationship with Paramount and the fact that the G.I. Joe sequel has earned $371 million to date at the global box office.

For the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek, Paramount could give Trekkies a wonderful film from the geniuses behind the G.I. Joe and Transformers franchises. God help us all...
