But I like this chart. And the part about not bothering to change lenses and IA settings throughout different shots in a given sequence makes sense. I can see how some directors couldn't be bothered to give the stereographers the time it takes to do that. I remember that being really evident for me in one of the Resident Evil movies during an action scene with Alice, composed of two alternating viewpoints, one close and one further away. The close view looked nice and round, while the further view was a cardboard cutout. It looked like they used the same stereo settings for both shots and edited it together. That's probably a frequent occurrence in most live movies, and I just don't pick up on it all the time. I wouldn't call the 3D a total afterthought though as there was evidence of planning and story-boarding for 3D in Jack and Oz, using it to enhance story moments, which is what I miss so much watching the comic book conversions. Actually, I think what they did in that particular RE shot was keep the amount of parallax exactly the same, so the parallax would edit together seamlessly, while allowing the roundness vary. I thought it would have looked better had it been the opposite.

Finally watched it last night and had a blast with the story and 3D!
The story keeps you interested throughout. The CGI giants were not the most realistic, definitely no where close to Hobbit's giants, but fun to watch. The 3D is mostly good especially for live action, but it seemed a little flat when it came to the CG giants. There is very palpable contrast when they switch between live action to CG. Too bad, they could have easily pushed it a bit more (may be I am spoiled with Sammy 2 ). Lets say I enjoyed Hansel & Gretel a bit more as gore had no bounds there as opposed to Jack which is a family movie (much better than Oz), so everything is mellowed down! |

Although i thoroghly enjoyed JTGK, Was re-watching Puss in boots which had an elaborate scene with bean stalk growing which I have to say is orders of magnitude better in 3D quality....perhaps there it happens in daylight and because its from king of 3d - DREAMWORKS!

The lenticular BD 3D slip-cover fits over a standard HD-slim case that has inside an extra center 2-disc holder. The outer case is the same size as a standard HD-slim 2D case.

No activity in quite some time here...
Rewatched yesterday, such a fun fantasy adventure. If the CG work had a bit more polish it would be perfect. Bryan Singer always seems to have crappy CG in his movies though which is odd considering the budgets he'd usually given. The 3D is damn good throughout, yes it could be stronger but this is a solid native presentation. |
