I don't think I've seen a teen movie or even a TV show in ages in which vinyl isn't used to denote how cool a character is. Ahead of the curve since 1989 me.

if it ever does, which i doubt, go totally digital...i wont buy anything, i'll go back to downloading. whats the point of buying something if you dont have a physical copy? yeah, its quicker ot just select from a harddrive and watch, but i like having something physical to show for my investments.

For consumer purposes it's more than adequate. By the time corruption becomes an issue some other cheaper, faster, larger storage medium will be available.

Hell, I can fit all the drives I owned ten years ago on a keychain now.

Streaming will never be the answer for me. The way I see it, streaming is only good for the average renter, not someone who likes watching movies over and over again. My DVD and Blu-ray collection will continue to grow for years to come just like my VHS collection did up until a couple years ago.

On topic(for whatever that's worth), books are available digitally, and we still have bookstores.
Once the last publisher prints the last book, and the last bookstore that sells the last book and closes up shop...then I'll be worried about home video media. But that's just me.

I think in the future physical media formats will become extinct. There will be some sort of microchip or plug in directly to our brains which we can access any form of entertainment anytime we please. I think because of this movie theaters, plays, concerts etc. will be the thing of the past. There will places where people can congregate, plug in or turn on the microchip in their brains and enjoy the entertainment in social environment or the comforts of their homes.

No offense but that sounds like something out of a silly scifi movie. And go ahead and try to put a chip in my head.

I will never be able to justify spending the same price for a digital copy of something as for a physical blu-ray. It just doesn't make sense. Not to mention a blu may go on sale for far cheaper than its digital counterpart.

Beside the quality and collecting aspects, its nice to grab a case off of the shelf go to a friends house a share a movie you love with them. Without giving them your logon information for VUDU or iTunes.

The simple fact is people like collecting things whether is vinyl records or Blu-rays, I love collecting movies and music, I don't get the same satisfaction from digital downloads. I never had VHS but I was an avid Laser Disc collector, I enjoyed hunting down a movie to add to my collection, I traveled a lot for work and enjoyed going to different stores hunting down that elusive title, the internet has made this easier. I still travel a bit and I like walking into a store and browsing Blu-rays and CD's. Streaming may eventually take over but it will never have any intrinsic value, you can't sell it you can borrow it. In the mean time I will happily go on my merry way picking up the titles I like and adding to my growing collection.

P.S. It's amazing the number of rare OOP CD's and Records I have been able to pick up for next to nothing because people are dumping them for MP3's

Already have work places who are working on inserting a chip in workers arms so they can access security sections, do away with the badges and cards. I would not call it scifi so much, reality is strange enough on most occasion.

Some people (probably way too many) would go along with the head chip implant just for being part of the "gang" just so they can fit in, they are cool with the latest gadget. Look how many people rush out to replace the Iphone4 to Iphone5 because they can't use a phone that is so old, they must have the new thing.

One of the many things content providers would prefer to control your ability to do...

I am proud not to be a part of that "some people" group.

I am not so sure if it is a simple fact, I like collecting movies as well but I get no satisfaction out of collecting blu rays...none whatsoever....I think it has to do with all that blue on the case and the sad fact that the back cover is spoiled by the messages about iTunes or UV...Laserdisc and dvd had better packaging...

You sure you like collecting movies? You only have a total of 8 BDs and DVDs listed in your collection. You don't have to even see the blue cases, just store the BDs in a box or put a door on the shelf.

Physical media isn't going anywhere. There are too many people out there who dislike the idea of "renting" or "licensing" digital media. I don't mind digital media for fresh TV show episodes, but for movies I want the high production values to shine and streaming doesn't really allow for that 99% of the time.

Don't pay attention to that list, I was trying to use the iPhone app but it does not work well.....I have a lot more movies in my collection than just 8....a lot more..

I think the rental market is about the same size and purchasing market...
