Greetings to all...sorry to see our old thread go by the wayside, although I have not been in there to post in some time. Been busy with life, as usual!
Glad to see there's a place for all the good guys to still communicate about the films we love! |

Italy, if you don't find anyone here be sure and check the bar in the clubhouse. We hang out there too. Look at your PMs.

Admittedly, I often slack on getting to the special features on discs. I can't believe I waited this long to view Sueur on The Secret of the Grain disc. It's 40 minutes of song and dance. They even have a cous-cous song! (which I had to record digitally).
This past weekend I finally got to Amour at the c'theque. Enjoyed it immensely. It really hit home because my father is recovering from a stroke and most of the frustrations in the film I've seen. Riva is astonishing. Amazing how her brilliance in Hiroshima and Amour are separated by 53 years. |

Sorry to hear about your father. Glad he is recovering. I want to see Amour, but at this point will likely wait for the blu-ray. I just imported Cache a few weeks ago. |

Speaking of gorgeous black and white home video, the screencaps of the upcoming release of 3:10 to Yuma look sumptuous. |

The rumor (via Podcast http://welcometotripcity.com/2013/05...eric-skillman/) from Crit Co. and artist Eric Skillman is they allegedly have a planned release that features the cover art of Saul Bass. The only clue is it's not a Hitchcock.
Taking away the films already released on blu-ray this leaves us with these as possibilities: 1979 The Human Factor (poster designer) 1975 Rosebud (poster designer - uncredited) 1971 Such Good Friends (poster designer - uncredited) 1965 Bunny Lake Is Missing (poster designer - uncredited) 1965 In Harm's Way (poster designer) 1963 The Cardinal (poster designer - uncredited) 1962 Advise & Consent (poster designer - uncredited) 1961 One, Two, Three (poster designer - uncredited) 1960 Exodus (poster designer - uncredited) 1957 Love in the Afternoon (poster designer - uncredited) 1957 Saint Joan (poster designer - uncredited) 1957 Edge of the City (poster designer - uncredited) 1955 The Man with the Golden Arm (poster designer - uncredited) 1950 No Way Out (poster designer - uncredited) My guess: Advise and Consent Last edited by ShellOilJunior; 05-13-2013 at 12:42 PM. |

My most wanted announcements are upgrades of:
Le Samourai (I really hope this is coming and in a new transfer) The Cranes are Flying Ballad of a Soldier The Naked Prey The Spy Who Came in From the Cold Ace in the Hole Andrei Rublev Picnic at Hanging Rock (more hopeful now after seeing the recent pic) And about 20 others, including some posted by other members that I have not seen but all the talk has got me interested. The top 8 or so posted here have not changed much in the past two years for me. As for new announcements, I have about a dozen I'd like to see Criterion release, mostly Australian New Wave classics and Soviet/Russian cinema. And Fred Zinnemann's The Day of the Jackal. But my most wanted new spine would be a Canadian award winner I have posted about several times over the past year, Philip Borsos' The Grey Fox. |

Wow! It's all happening here!
Sci-fi (I like Iain Banks), philosophy, Fellini, Léon Morin, Priest, H.P. Lovecraft (currently working my way through a collection of his work), Jean Paul Belmondo, Ray Harryhausen, Amour (my favourite film of the year so far) and this thread has only just begun. So I might go off topics and mention Criterion: I blind-bought the Pierre Etaix set and I've already watched the first two shorts and the first feature. Fantastic films. Funnily enough, a day before the set arrived I finally watched my BFI edition of Mon Oncle and there was Etaix's name as an assistant director. He clearly learned how to use sound from Jacques Tati, but his "sad-sack" face immediately reminds me of Buster Keaton. Highly recommended ![]() |
