Blu-ray Samurai

This is a new thread that is dedicated to the films of the obscure Japanese director Masanobu Deme. Please feel free to post your comments or feedback about this virtually unknown director.
Thanks! EDIT: In the hopes of explaining the reason for this thread's title and obscurity, I'm quoting a post from a longtime blu-ray forum poster and friend, ElliesDad, which sums it up better than I can... "It’s kind of an anti-thread. Basically open to ‘whatever’ but gravitating toward classic, art-house, or niche film discussion, anecdotes, and concerns. It’s meant for news-sharing, heads-ups for upcoming quality releases, tips on little-known or under-appreciated gems, discussion on same. It tries to avoid pomposity, discussion of missing slip-covers, nicked corners during shipping, half-second transitional tics in an otherwise fine production, ocd concerns of every stripe, lists, and ‘who’s hotter’ evaluations . It hopes to avoid rants and tirades, incivility, bursts of ego, bad-mouthing (and bad behaviour of every kind, including power-posting and peacocking). Open-mindedness, humor, and congeniality are always welcome." Last edited by rkish; 11-30-2013 at 02:49 PM. |

Shouldn't this belong in this international section? He's also only made one film since 1999.

Nothing.
So far as I can tell, none of his movies have even been released on DVD (nor are they likely to be, since there's virtually no interest in them), so I don't see the point of this thread in the blu-ray forum. |

By the way Pat, have you seen The Human Condition by Kobayashi? Just wondering your take on the film. I have been on the limb deciding in purchasing it or not? |

I only caught cinephilia when I was 31, about ten years ago, so I regret that unlike favorite books, poems, paintings, or musical pieces that I discovered at an impressionable age, I won't be able to revisit and reflect on how films I now see as masterpiece *contenders* might have seemed to me at too young an age to maybe "get." Art can be as much a signpost of our own development as it is that of the artist's as long as we take the time to absorb and reflect. Regurgitation is for infants ![]() [/pretentious twaddle] Feel free to dispute or elaborate. The soapbox is yours. |
