In Star Wars, droids are always eager to help out their human masters, drop whatever it is they're doing when called upon, and sometimes even sacrifice themselves to save others. Right?

Not quite. Introducing Chopper, a lazy, cranky (if ultimately goodhearted) astromech droid, and the latest character revealed from the highly anticipated Star Wars Rebels animated series. "If Artoo is the family dog," said Dave Filoni, executive producer of the show, "Chopper is the cat." Chopper is an essential crew member of the Ghost, tasked with keeping the starship running and operable for its band of heroes. In reality, thanks to his many "unique" upgrades and customizations, no other alien, human, or droid could handle the job.

The design of Chopper, a.k.a. C1-10P, takes cues from early Ralph McQuarrie concept art for R2-D2, especially the expressive arms that fold out of his head. As Star Wars Rebels takes place four years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Chopper's retro look creates an aesthetic continuity with droids of the original trilogy.Check out a special preview of Chopper in the accompanying slideshow, including a first look at Hasbro's upcoming toy -- part of a full line of 3.75-inch Star Wars Rebels Saga Legends action figures -- and learn more about the grumpy astromech from the creators of Star Wars Rebels in the video below.

Star Wars Rebels is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel and will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

This kind of surprises me. I was expecting the start of the series to be closer to Episode III than IV.

WOW!!! I don`t want to finish watching all the Clone Wars seasons yet. I just got the box set back in October. But, I do want to see how the series ends. I hope that the final 13 episodes gets a blu ray release. It would suck not having that series complete.

Logic dictates that Vader defeats Maul.

It will never happen, so it's all just matter of opinion at this point.

Vader did not defeat Obi Wan though. Right? Obi Wan stopped fighting Vader and gave his life to Vader when he saw that Luke and the rest were making their way back onto the Millennnium Falcon. Obi Wan had set out to do what he did. He also knew that he would become stronger if Vader killed him.

Fantastic news!

I really hope they tie all loose ends by the end of season 5... either way, I am glad the series will have a well deserved closure.

In Vader's mind he defeated Obi-Wan. And as far as Obi-Wan becoming "more powerful than you can ever imagine", so he can talk to Luke? Heck we can do that with cell phones.
And let's face it, if it wasn't for Han Solo the Empire would've won.

Let's get back on topic, guys. This is about the Star Wars Rebels series. Star Wars: Clone Wars is here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=131296

The more I see of the animation for Star Wars: Rebels, the more I'm becoming impressed with this series. There's a new video about this 14-year old con artist named Ezra, along with a look at some of the animation:

http://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-b...ons-and-legos/

The animation style doesn't look too goofy or distorted like Clone Wars. I just don't like the style, the animation style, that CN uses. I'm glad that Disney has the rights to the series and I look forward to catching this new series when it's released.

The link above has a new video about the new series.

I'm not too impressed. I do hope this can bring it like Clone Wars did.

Who the hell is the lead character anyway?

It kinda looks like an even more infantile version of the Clone Wars series :/

Is this a follow on from Clone Wars? why not just carry on with that?.

Another new teaser. For Zeb! Voiced by Steve (Wolverine) Blum!!

Zeb of course like Chopper is based on early McQuarrie designs for ANH. In this case, Chewbacca.

My first impression is that the animation isnt very good. My second is who the heck are these guys? I have little interest right now in learning all new characters. Maybe I'll warm up to it but I'm just not feeling this show right now.

My thoughts exactly, to me, the appeal of the clone wars was the expansion of the story of already well-known characters...

I understand the theme of this new show is different and I will give it a chance, but I am not liking the previews so far... I am more excited about the final season of the Clone Wars instead...
