This looks amazing, thanks for the link Mav--For anyone who's played the previous games, will newcomers be totally lost with characters and their histories starting with the 3rd game or are they each kind of their own thing?

The game comes with a history of the Witcher which should help those who haven't played 1 and 2.

I thought they said they would have a recap in game so that if you hadn't played before, you would be caught up

I can't believe how amazing this game looks. I'm not one for Skyrim size games however, this does look pretty immense and has my interest.

How far do you think we can travel, in game, until we hit the inevitable invisible wall?

It looks amazing, can't wait.

My only complaint for the first two Witcher games (beside the very janky combat, but I got used to that) is how on rails they could be, but W3 looks really open from what we've seen. 2015 is going to be a huge year for gaming it looks like

Yeah, looks awesome. Once I get into Witcher I don't think I'm going to need anything else for quite a long time.

It's just a bummer that both Dying Light and Witcher are being released in February because I'm very excited to play Dying Light as well and I can't play both at the same time...

Major details on Witcher 3 leaked

Quote:
The Witcher 3 Files Leak Revealing Massive 64km Sq Map
And that's not even all of it.

By Luke Karmali

A huge number of details regarding The Witcher 3 have appeared online, following internal design documents being stolen.

A CD Projekt Red employee's Google Drive was hacked into, with the contents quickly finding their way onto the likes of Reddit. Inside, information pertaining to the title's story, missions, maps, enemies and ending are all revealed.

The developer has gone on record advising anyone interested in the story of the game to avoid the document as there are heaps of spoilers. As a result, we won't post any information about them here, though you're more than welcome to follow the link and find them for yourself. What we can look at, however, is the impressive maps and monster design also revealed.

The map of the island of Ard Skellig is said to be 64 kilometres squared, and is just one of the areas you'll be exploring in the game. While we've yet to get confirmation whether or not the landmass has been modified since this map was created, if it's remained similar in terms of mass then the finished product could be massive. With Novigrad and No Man's Land also confirmed as areas you'll traverse, it's probably a good idea to pack your hiking boots.

Art revealing monsters also features in the asset leak, as does the revelation that the game could be completed without progression issues as of February this year. It seems the remaining year until release is set to focus on creating music, recording dialogue, debugging and adding content.

There's also mention of both SmartGlass and Kinect, though we don't specifically find out how these will be implemented. Seeing as the developer has previously made clear it will not be offering platform exclusive content, presumably it's nothing too earth-shattering.

The games have a saved game import feature (well on pc they do). From the first to second game there where some changes, but they where rather small. That however is because the first game more or less ended the same no matter what. The second game however as numerous different endings that are substantially different. I'm sure you will be able to play it without any problem, but don't expect to get the full experience, I would equate it to playing mass effect 3 without playing the first two games).

Stats I've seen online from the leak are a 64 square KM map, Skyrim by comparison was 37 I believe.

Hopefully CD Projekt RED does not end up changing The Witcher 3's story due to the leaks like EA did with ME3.

Witcher 3 may not be 1080p on either PS4 or Xbone

Quote:
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has the potential of not being full 1080p quality or 60fps, suggests a Worlds Factory interview with CD Projekt RED‘s visual effects artist Jose Teixeira.

"Ideally, we’re pushing for 30 frames per second. The resolution, honestly, it depends; we’re working on it, we’re trying to get it as high as possible," said Teixeira.

"If we can make it at 1080P, sure, but I don’t know if it’s going to make it. To be honest, I really don’t know. Probably not. But for sure, we need it to run at a smooth frame rate, so at least 30 FPS."

According to Teixeira, the physics engine - which takes up a lot of processing power - is partly to blame:

"We’re asking the environment artists to put as many physics objects as possible, of course within the limits of memory and performance, but for example when you go inside the tavern, the tables, the mugs, the chairs are all subject to physics. Geralt has this spell, a push of force, and when he does that everything flies off the table. In the beginning it was crazy, but now we have it under control. It’s going to be great."

Teixeira also shared some reservations his team had about running such a powerful game on consoles.

"To be honest, we were expecting a lot worse. When we first started playing on PS4 and XB1, we expected the game not to work at all, because it was so heavy, so we were expeciting it to crash, but it’s actually running. It’s not quite there yet, but it’s running. So I think that with a little more optimization, I think we’ll get it running really well."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set for release on February 24 of next year. Have a look at IGN's preview for more information on the game.

Not liking the sounds of what they said. Either give us the resolution or LOCK THE FRAMERATE. Enough of this

You sacrifice one for the other. Not both.
