Great stuff.

Code:

Week Top20% BD$ DVD$ $%
04/27 6:94 9.20 106.76 7.9:92.1
05/04 5:95 7.08 101.25 6.5:93.5
05/11 5:95 6.56 124.6 5.0:95.0
05/18 5:95 7.99 126.46 5.9:94.1
And we have enough data for 4-week rolling figures which will be much less dependent on individual releases and thus more indicative of general trends:

Code:

Week BD$ DVD$ $%
05/18 30.83 459.07 6.3:93.7

The #2, #3, and #4 top selling DVD titles for the week were not available for purchase in Blu-ray. In fact, 5 out of the top 10 DVD sellers were available only in DVD. I am looking foward to next week's numbers (reflecting this week's sales). I am sure that there is going to be a significant increase in BD movie sales.

Cool. It will be interesting to track the rolling 4-week number.

The jumps will probably be dramatic. Killer apps are coming. Iron Man, Indy 4, and The Dark Knight are going to sell a boatload of Blu-ray players, and that will cause a big boost in overall sales.

Gary

Shinobi: Heart Under Blade outsold Master and Commander.

Um...maybe it's finally time for Fox to price ALL CATALOG TITLES at $19.99? Maybe?

Shinobi was on Amazon for $10. That's why it outsold M&C

Short Circuit will probably do similarly well.

Here are some BD percentages of total sales using Dave J's models:

Narnia: 27% of total disc sales were BD
I Am Legend: 18%
Alien vs Predator Requiem: 12%
Golden Compass: 9%
Untraceable: 5%
P.S. I Love You: 2%

Yep, the market is still small enough where a leading retailer with an aggressive pricing move or sale can really affect the numbers. Best Buy sale titles show up regularly in the top ten.

I expect National Treausre 2 to do very well in Blu-ray. Rambo will be HUGE with the Blu crowd. Looking foward to Friday's HMM.

Info for week ending May 25

Quote:
National Treasure: Book of Secrets also was the top-selling Blu-ray Disc release of the week, while the original National Treasure was the week’s No. 2 Blu-ray seller. A two-pack of both films bowed at No. 3.
The DVD charts were adventure-heavy: the top 5 were filled by Benjamin Gates and Indiana Jones.

Yeah, but M&C was delayed multiple times. You'd think the demand would have grown enough for it to at least crack the top 20. I wonder how many copies #20 sold last week. Can't be many at all.

And I'm sure that ridiculous Fox pricing also played a factor.

As usual, it's a movie title issue. NT2 falls between a true action and family fare, which explains the 6.89%. What is surprising is Golden Compass --- at 11% of DVD, I think that is a reflection of lack of interest on the DVD GC than actual great BD sales. Narnia is also surprising, but is this title day and date with DVD?

Kid's, animation, romance, comedies, animation haven't done that well on BD so far. 300 and Legend appears to be the best performers so far in terms of BD sales.
