Aliens
Never gets old. Better than any of the summer blockbusters that have come after it, too. A tour de force. Love it! |

I did an Orson Welles double feature. I finally watched The Magnificent Ambersons DVD that came with the Citizen Kane Blu-ray set. I had forgotten just how great that movie is even in truncated form. Although it was just DVD the film looked surprisingly good. Perhaps Criterion will snag this title for a future Blu-ray release. They did handle a laser disc release back in the day..
Next up was the second Blu-ray pressing of The Lady From Shanghai. A great film noir. Some have complained about this pressing as being too dark. It is indeed dark but I really enjoyed the transfer. I had just watched Ambersons and that film has some really dark sequences as well. All is all, a great night of classic film viewing! |

The remake of Gone in 60 Seconds. The wife got it as part of the Jerry Bruckhiemer boxed-set.
Remind me to go take a crap in Mr Bruckhiemers' pudding. Let's see if he likes having shit served to him, under the guise of looking good. |

This is only home media right? Like DVDs, Blu-rays? No VOD, dvr recordings, Netflix (even if they are through your home theater?)
Anyway... The French Connection ![]() 3.5/5 It's a gritty, well filmed thriller with some great chase scenes and music, and a solid performance by Gene Hackman, but I found the story and characters lacking and it doesn't hold up to some of the other films it spawned in its genre. Alien. I had not watched it in two years and it was about time again. I watched the directors cut this time, I keep alternating them. While the theatrical cut will always be my favourite I like getting the slightly different angle and I think Brett's death scene is superior in the way it is handled. The way we first see the alien, like it could be a part of machinery if you don't know and the fact the Ripley and Parker see him getting dragged off makes sense. In the original we never find out how they know what happened to him.

Quite right TT. The theatrical is an all-time classic but I do like the DC, it puts a fresh spin on it. Anyway, the last movie I watched was Point Blank. Lee Marvin at his badass best. |
