I never would have guessed we'd get Bio-Dome on Blu-ray before Bad Boys II. Wow! That being said I'll probably buy Bio-Dome. Only ever watched it once with my sister on VHS back in the day when we were kids. All I remember is them trying to guess what they ate based on the smell of their farts lol.

Whoa the two star review had me a little worried but looks like it was given the low rating based on the reviewer not liking the movie very much, mediocre audio and no extras. Thankfully I enjoy this Pauly shore movie and PQ is the single most important thing (in my opinion) when it comes to blu ray for me.

That's the reason I asked several posts up. I was hoping Olive would break their lazy habits. Olive only knows 2.0 Mono.. Correct me if wrong, but can anyone name a single Stereo 2.0 from them? Those audio options are fine, but not when both the DVD/Laserdisc had Dolby Digital 5.1 & 2.0 Stereo. No excuses for not including both in lossless these days.
Barebone releases, lowish bitrates (adequate at best) on 98% of there releases and a high suggested retail that rarely goes on sale... Now I know why I only have two titles from them. ![]() |

Ok, so I got a copy of EBay used, was not going to support Olive on this one... anyway, the 2.5 score on the audio was GENEROUS to say the least.. it sounds HORRIBLE, at the very least they should have carried over the standard 5.1 Dolby Digital track.. what a shame, the opening credits had some good sound effects to them, glad I still have the laserdisc of it.. hard to imagine, but a 18 or so year old laserdisc blows away a blu ray new release.. just sad...

I just finished watching my Olive Films Blu-ray of Bio-Dome.
Olive Films has always excelled at bringing great high definition transfers of underrated cinematic classics to Blu-ray without compromising the source material in terms of video quality, and Bio-Dome is no exception. The picture quality goes above and beyond that of the old MGM DVD. The audio switch to DTS-HD 2.0 comes across well enough, which is a good thing for a film that has such a fun soundtrack. I wore out my DVD of Bio-Dome years ago, because it's an addictive film that always puts a smile on my face without fail. Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin are a trip, and I would like to have seen some making-of features or deleted scenes with more of their goofy improvisational antics. Joey Lauren Adams is quite gorgeous in an early role here, although I have always preferred the beautiful brunette, Teresa Hill. Of course, it does not get any better than Dara Tomanovich and Kylie Minogue, both of whom play sexy Bio-Dome scientists. William Atherton is, as always, pretty amazing in a role as a complete tool. There are several moments in this film when all of the actors involved seem to be having trouble holding back their laughter, so it's all the more impressive that Atherton has a straight face the whole time. I have actually owned the soundtrack CD of Bio-Dome for a couple of decades now, and I still revisit it quite often. Time Zone's "World Destruction", Men Without Hats - "The Safety Dance", Camper Van Beethoven's "Good Guys and Bad Guys", Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy", etc. Highly recommended! |
