I also called the support center today (and last week, and the week before) and got the standard scripted message of check back in a week. I hate Samsung. I wish I could be a little more articulate right now but I dont have it in me. I just hate them. Give me back my $599 for my 1200 so I can buy something that works.

Default Pirates Question

I have the Sony BDP-300 and the movie locks up completely at different points in the film. I got my player 24 hours ago and already watched Underworld, Underworld: Evolution, and Crank. All of these played great, Pirates 3 looked the best....by far...but will the firmware update fix this?

Yes that is one of the things that FW fixes is lockups. And Sony released a new FW yesterday.

That sucks guys. I think that the problem with firmware upgrading is going to drive the average consumer crazy. It's too bad that all BD players don't come with a 1gig USB stick and little instructions about Firmware upgrades. It would make life easy for people, and if companies would put out FW upgrads more often.

Please donot confuses Samsungs behavior with the other CEs in the market place. Have there been problems with other players? Yes but Samsung is the real problem. The other CEs release FW with some regularity and fix problems before they get out of hand or within a week after release.

As to doing FW with thumb drives not sure that is any easier than copying a CD or DVD. And how many have problems with that? Of course there are those that have ethernet ports but having people setup a network can be a chore as well.

Hello. I'm new to the forum, though I have occasionally read posts here in order to gather information about firmware updates. I own a Samsung BDP-1200 which I bought back in July. Overall, I've enjoyed its performance. I have it hooked up to a 37" Sharp Aquos LCD display. The 1080p picture it puts out has been a sheer joy to experience. My only complaint with the unit has been the need to download updates in order to play certain films. Like others a few months ago, I was disappointed after I purchased Fantastic Four 2 that I could not immediately play it. I seem to remember waiting about 2 weeks before Samsung updated their firmware for consumers of their products in order for their players to be able to play that title. Now, like many others, I find myself unable to play my blu ray copy of Pirates 3 though it's been well over 2 weeks. I don't consider myself an impatient person, and I don't mind waiting a while in order to get the proper playback from a disc that I purchase, but if this type of situation persists I think that I'm going to become increasingly frustrated. This type of issue shouldn't be happening at all. The blu ray hardware manufacturers should be on the ball and get advanced copies of new releases so that they can pre-test them to ensure compatibility so that consumers like ourselves don't wind up in the situation that we're currently in. If other hardware manufacturers can produce updates relatively quickly, then Samsung should be able to as well. (Sorry for the rant, but I felt the need for it.)
On a related note, if anyone here has information about when Samsung posts the fix for Pirates 3, I'd certainly appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the forum! Blu-ray hardware manufacturers generally are on the ball and do release timely firmware. Samsung seems to be the sole exception, which means you, I and other 1200 owners must wait - not a pleasant experience, as the many posts in this thread will attest. Trust me, this thread will very quickly announce an update when it becomes available.

Rur,

Thanks for the welcome. Its nice that these types of forums are available for folks like myself to exchange information and opinions. I suppose that we can only hope that future Blu Ray disc releases don't continue to cause similar hiccups with the BDP-1200. As I stated before, overall I have enjoyed it's performance. Most of my discs have played well with it (the only exceptions being the aforementioned POTC3 and FF2, along with disc one of Smallville Season 6), so I'm not to the point of retiring the unit or tossing it out the window as I've heard some others express the desire to do so here. I'll just have to bide my time and hope that Samsung releases their firmware update before my 2 weeks of vacation for the holidays are all gone and I have to return to my classroom.

My PS3 gave me problems at first with Pirates 3. It would get done with the Disney promo and wouldn't load the menu. I let the PS3 "warm-up" before starting the movie up. Then it worked fine.

Default New Firmware next week?

Just an fyi...

I recently spoke with Samsun customer service and escalated up their chain several links to speak with a gentleman very sympathetic to those of us at Samsung's mercy.

He "claims" that a corporate Samsung announcement puts the release at mid-January. The 15th (give or take)....

Everyone cross your fingers and do that "voodoo that you do"!!!

Unhappy

Well, it's Jan 24 (2008) and still no firmware in site. I called the support center tonight - the person I spoke with said it looks like a couple more weeks.

(sigh)

Best place to track news on this is in the stickied 1200 owners thread. There, you'll find a recent Crave article which claims that the 1200 firmware will be released 2/2. The same article claimed an update for the 1400 on 1/25, and that update was released yesterday i.e. the article may actually have accurate info! Hopefully, the 2/2 1200 date will hold.

This is what Samsung is telling us at service centers, so not sure if firmware update will fix this.
