Full specs will likely be released in July/August (going off the last two editions' time frame.) We can only hope a clip or trailer will be included. Today the UK release date was just announced, so more info will likely be coming in soon.

What will be the big exclusives for the Hobbit Battle Of The Five Armies Extended Edition? Last time Best Buy had the one with a key & Target had a steelbook but what will be the exclusive for this movie?

I have held off on the single release extended versions just for the complete trilogy. Hoping for packaging like the Lord of the Rings extended trilogy box!

Do you think they'll do two flavors of the Extended Box Set with all 3 films: 2D & 3D? Also, is a combined LOTR/Hobbit set likely? (Don't know why I'm asking bc I have no interest in purchasing one.)

This is a good question. That's why I bought the first two extended sets in 3D. As long as Warner does the last one with the same lenticular slipbox I will be happy.

Ha! With my OCD and luck this will be the time Warner says "Yeah, we're done with lenticular slips."

Oh I have no doubt that we'll see some sort of big mega box set of all six movies, theatrical and extended editions, Blu-ray / DVD / digital HD, with all bonus features plus new ones.

And I'll totally buy it, too.

Now then… first up today, it looks as if the street date for Warner’s as-yet-unannounced The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Extended Edition is going to be 11/10 or 11/17. The U.K. release is already listed on Amazon.co.uk with a date of 11/16, so you can bet the U.S. release will confirm fairly closely to this. We expect an official announcement soon, possibly around San Diego Comic-Con which is just two weeks away. [Read on here…]

November 17th is the day I was told months ago when I made a thread for the extended cut.
That thread was then moved to the WishList and the Title was altered by whoever moved it.

why? Warner's committed to encoding Dolby Atmos on their new releases - there's no reason why 'Battle of the Five Armies' (or even the prior Hobbit movies) shouldn't have said mix... none.

Can they fit all that on a single disc? The 2D edition will likely be on a single disc like the previous two longer movies. A 3 hour film, a 3 hour audio commentary, and a Dolby Atmos track might be too much for a single disc and I doubt WB will split this film across two discs just for the sake of a dolby atmos track. The average consumer doesnt even have a dolby atmos setup so for them all they are getting is an unecessary disc change, and WB would have to use more discs in the release. Personally if its between a Dolby Atmos track I cant take advantage of and a disc change or a lossless Dolby HD 7.1 track and no disc change Id rather have the latter.

Dolby Atmos will definitely be used on the inevitable 4K release tho.

Why would it be too much? Transformers 4 was almost 3 hours long and had an Atmos track along with whatever other language dubs were on it. Doesn't seem impossible.

Cook, Atmos uses TrueHD 7.1 as its 'core' and then bolts on the Atmos info, in other words it's not some hugely bit-hungry audio mix in and of itself. If there's enough room on the disc for DTS-HD MA 7.1 or DTHD 7.1, then adding a few extra Mb/s on top won't make a huge amount of difference.

Besides, Five Armies is the shortest of all the Middle-earth movies and even with another half-hour of footage tacked on it won't hit 3 hours, there's enough room. But all this is moot because there won't be an Atmos track on the Five Armies EE, it'll be DTS-HD 7.1 just like all the others.

Never said it was, I'm not one of the five people in the world who's got Atmos. Plain old fashioned 7.1 is my limit.

Same here. What's funny is maybe 30% of U.S. households have 5.1 much less 7.1
