Good to see another person putting their money where their mouth is. Goes to show Robert’s shootout had a practical value for some rather than only serving as debate fodder on other websites or forums, which I’m pretty confident is already happening knowing display fanboys in the world of the audio/video social media internet.

Jim, I’m not sure how nitpicky you are (as I’m talking critical viewing here), but once you make your deal with Robert (purchase/initial calibration), of which you can’t go wrong because even back during the days of the HD DVD-Blu-ray format war, he had an outstanding track record for customer service (no matter if one was a ‘Blu’ or ‘Red’ supporter), keep in mind that all TVs drift over time - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post10550674

Yours will (everybody’s does), and when that happens, if you still desire to chase the most accurate picture quality possible out of your TV, like you should experience when the set is/was first enjoyed, I’ll pass on the name of a local Los Angeles area professional calibrator (with top drawer tools) who does consumer as well as routinely scheduled re-calibrations in Hollywood post facilities, commonly, and keeps records of the drift - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post10794555

I love V&A and Tom Campbell and I have been on CE Week panel discussions for the past 4 years. Video & Audio is an excellent specialty a/v retailer.

There is a lot of member support for the reversal of Robert's "Banned For Life" on AVS Forum. They may urge him run for president before long.

Thanks Ray ^. As you know I love all forums, because they are a great medium to be spreading the good word of quality a/v, which takes the best efforts from everyone involved and advancing the science of video imaging so we can faithfully reproduce the original source to get the full value and benefits that the fine craftsmen who create the content put into telling their story.

I'm selfish, I won't stop my dedication to get everyone in the delivery process to be transparent from the original source. That goes for every manufacturer and process that starts with the lens and ends up on my home display device. Yes, that's right I won't give up until I am as successful as possible in every way. I want all of the emotion and enjoyment that film, sports and gaming has to offer us and nothing less.

I hope to be able to post again on AVS Forum and all of the a/v forums as my early childhood passion, love and pursuit of perfection for a/v has been and always will be my enjoyment and mission.

May the force be with you,

-Robert

lol, ray, you may want to start a Yes/No “Should we bring Robert Zohn back to AVS” poll over there.

I’m surprised Robert’s *banned for life* at AVS for I’m informed that their current administrative practice (since the HD DVD/ Blu-ray format war ended) seems to be to leverage and leverage heavily (on the homepage, etc.) anything and anyone (speakers, interviewees, event converge, etc.) which will bring in viewership…which ultimately translates to $$ coming in.

Yes, but will you give it the same effort after you’ve retired….when no financial or personal gain is involved...i.e. pure giving? That will be the ultimate test Robert.

I had no idea that Robert was banned from AVS. Especially ridiculous since their lead article today is about the shoot-out.

As far as I'm concerned, Robert is the ideal of what an independent dealer should be. He's into quality, but he's always very low-key - he's very friendly and never arrogant. When you walk into many audiophile dealers (for example), if you don't buy into all their mantras about $3000 cables, $30,000 speakers and $5000 turntables, they treat you with disgust.

Robert puts a ton of money into these shoot-outs and other such events. I don't even see the AES or SMPTE running events like this (although they run worthy other types of events) and they're non-profits. The big chains do absolutely nothing, generally pay really crappy wages, don't train their staff, but expect all the business.

We should be supporting (actually worshipping) Robert and dealers like him, since there are very few left. I will never give the big chains or Amazon any of my business for big electronics as long as retailers like Robert are around.

If I have any criticism at all of Robert's operation, it's only that I'd love to see them pay more attention to audio (although I did purchase my last receiver there).

In March of 2013, I received an Infraction on AVS because I posted a few times regarding the Value Electronic ShootOut that was coming.

AVS called it "Spammed Advertisement". What I did was because I was excited not because I was advertising for V.E. I was never allowed to explain.

The infraction has expired and I lost "3 Points" what ever that means.

Yes, AVS seemed to be gunning for V.E. awhile back. Hope things have changed.

I can understand them being wary of dealers posting messages that are thinly disguised advertisements, but the shootouts are worthy educational events and VE never charged a fee (in fact they gave attendees free food/drink and a goodie bag). And there was never any active promotion of anything. And you weren't the dealer. Personally, I don't see it as any different than Scott Wilkinson doing his streaming show and interviewing someone from the industry who happens to be in the business of selling stuff.

Your post they get rid of, but they leave up all the personal conversations and other crap that people post? Ridiculous, but I suppose that's the nature of the web that we have to live with.

Not ridiculousness, more like hypocrisy. Kind of like a Congressman taking credit for the benefit of some new law in his state which he vehemently voted against to begin with. But alas, that’s the nature of the current politicians as well as some of the web.

Admittedly, from what very little I watched of this year’s shootout , I liked the Scarsdale venue from last year much more. Robert, you don’t need ‘CE Week’ or AVS for your yearly shootout to continue to blossom…they need you (your shootout) more. The shootout can stand on its own.

My advice……bring it back into your retail store, serve up even better food and drink to the patrons who actually appreciate you (meaning without hypocrisy) and if you’re getting tired of doing the MC work, well then just have one of your calibrators do it.

It was nice to see the comparison from your event, even if it was a bit limited with only certain models with different screen sizes. Begs one question how is this year's LG's OLED model useful life fare in relation to the other LED-LCD displays especially when they keep upping the brightness spec's ? I tend to keep a display 7 to 8 years. Thanks.

John, I only put the flagship models from the premium TV manufacturers in our annual TV Shootout. I would like them to be the same size class, but this year that was not possible.

I would not worry about the life span of LG's OLED as they adopted/purchased Eastman Kodak's OLED pattens, which produce all of the colors from white OLED bulbs so their is no uneven pixel aging. We call it "color by White".

On another matter, thanks for everyone's very kind and thoughtful comments. I love forums and enjoy posting useful technical information and industry news. Hopefully AVS Forum will see the truth and reinstate my membership.

No idea you were banned from AVS. AVS has changed hands twice now. They're now owned by Vertical Scope. Not sure what you did to get banned, but I've seen others who were banned and are now back.

From the standpoint of being able to see all the displays from an audience position, this year's event was far better than the store. But the store was more "homey" and it had the food and drink.

To hell with the AVS forums. That site is full of arrogant pricks. We value you here more than that POS site ever will. It's their loss for banning you, not yours.

I had mixed feelings about having at a different venue. Yeah it was cheaper for me it being here in the city, but I love to town of Scarsdale because it's nice, clean, quiet and love the fresh, suburban air. I do understand why he had it down there (much more space even than the current location). It did feel weird that Kevin Miller, David McKenzie and D-Nice were not there because I did like that they pointed out each set's flaws (if any) in each category.
