Default New Stringer comments

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/fn/5367853.html

Stringer acknowledged it was still unclear which next-generation video platform will emerge the winner, although he said Blu-ray disc, the standard Sony backs, appeared to be ahead of the competing HD DVD format, backed by Toshiba Corp. and others.

"We have momentum," he said. "But that's all we have at the moment."

He seriously shouldn't be allowed to speak about bluray/HDDVD anymore.

Everytime he does, he just gives more fodder to the HDDVD group.

I want to hear the audio of the interview.

I bet he was taken out of context again.

I agree with you. I really think this was most likely taken out of context

GOD!!!!!!!!!!! He's is a wienie! Their entire format is floating on hope... all he's doing is fueling their fire! People read this sh*t and think, "hey, looks like HD-DVD will be around awhile... may as well go neutral/HD-DVD."

Here's how I replied to the stupid, pointless, unnecessary "stalemate" comment made by Stringer to HD-DVD fanboys at Amazon.com forums:

"I'm going to answer your question with another question. Do you think Kazuo Hirai, President & CEO of Sony, is sitting in Japan thinking that it is a stalemate? Of course not. Howard Stringer simply commented on the current situation HERE in the United States; the division HE oversees. For almost a year now Blu-ray has lead 2:1 with disc sales HERE in the United States. This margin would have widened greatly if it wasn't for the $150 million given to Paramount as a bribe, or "Promotional Consideration". The firesale of $98 HD-DVD 1080i players also somewhat stalemated the sales lead. Howard Stringer did not predict those desperate acts from Toshiba and Microsoft and simply made a comment on it. You HD-DVD fanboys took it like it was Sony waiving the white flag."

Stringer needs to just STFU!!!

Could someone plaease explain what you are complaining about?

Blu-ray does have momentun, that's it, nothing is 100% secure, unless that is you believe the Warner deal is already signed and sealed nut is being hushed up.

With desperation comes desperate comments, Blu-ray don't have to resort to such cheap tactics, while combating ignorant, HD-DVD FUDsters is the least of my worries!

It's not the words themselves, it's the attitude that it protrays towards the format war... If you were going into battle, would you want your general to say, "yeah we have momentum, but that's all we have".... yeah now I'm super syked to go fight! thanks boss!

The battles won, the deals are done.

The weekly Nielson obsession and fretting over what this or that store is stocking are now completely meaningless.

That's it, game over, just wait for the announcement and chill out.

This is clearly out of context people. The quotes are segmented and do not string together. They are picking and choosing the wrong statements for their report to make BD look bad. I know he did not say this, and it is not the first this has happened to him either. The press loves to twist things to make it look bad.

I'm thinking that's what happened 100%. After watching friend of mine on that reality TV show, "Rock of Love", I know understand the power of taking things out of context.

I have to agree. Warner knows the Harry Potter pre-order numbers. I don't think B&M sales will matter that much in any decision. This is it for the year. Stringer is not going to stir the pot. Warner will announce whatever Warner's intentions are. If they go Blu, that would still be momentum.

Exactly, also keep this in mind
Warner produced and shipped out estimated qty's to meet consumer demand.

You know what that means...2:1 right off the bat.

I disagree. These HD-DVD fanboys are running around spouting that Sony's CEO has given up, blah blah. Not needed when the sales margin is still 2:1 in the U.S.

He should just say nothing, that would be much more help during this crucial holiday shopping season.

Good money says that on AVS the mods let this article pass as "fact" while just the other day they censored all mention of the Business Week's bullish blu article quoting Michael Burns (Vice Chair of Lionsgate) as "rumor"

The very same fanboys who have zero creibility.

Do you really think mega corporations take any notice of these insignificant ittle idiots?

Tell them to go f*** their mother and leave 'em to stew, they're desperate.

Wrong. The war will not be over until Universal, Paramount and Warners are all BD exclusive. Remember the Paramount/Dreamworks deal that no one saw coming?? while unlikely to happen again, don't count your chickens before they've hatched.

Also, like was said above, if Stringer is going to make comments, he should make positive ones, or none at all. I think the companies with a vested financial interest in Blu-ray would agree.

I am counting my chickens, Warner are going Blu, the rest will fall in line like a stack of cards.

Let's quit with the stepping on egg shells bullshit, the market, worldwide, is hugely in Blu-rays favour.

Warner would have to be the biggest dumbasses in the history of dumbass corporations to take a short term incentive when the DVD money trough is declining at an alarming rate.

Time to stop worrying about paid shills, HD-DVD fanboys and the latest looney conspiracy theory.

This is big business, they all know what they're doing, we're insignificant in the game they're playing.

Getting into a frezny over a totally insignifcant comment shows how crazy this things become.

You are 100% correct.

I was shocked when I read that quote, if the CEO of my employer said something like that I'd go straight to Monster and find a new job haha.
