I voted Freddy!

Another weekend, so more horror squeezed in for me, just watched Prowl which I'd regard one of the better modern vampire flicks but the films atrocious pacing and complete lack of an ending near ruins the films massive potential.

1. Maniac (1980) (Blu Ray)
2. The Wind (1986) (DVD) 1/2
3. The Legacy (1978) (Blu Ray)
4. City of the Living Dead (1980) (Blu Ray) 1/2

The Wind is a horror suspense film from writer/director Nico Mastorakis (Island of Death, The Zero Boys). Shot on a Greek island the setting is stunning in this. Meg Foster plays a novelist pursued by a homicidal Wings Hauser. The highlight for me was
[Show spoiler]Wings Hauser being doused with a pot of boiling water.
Decent suspenseful flick.

The Legacy was a good one. I don't want to give away anything on this one. Some good death scenes and effects, good atmosphere throughout. The highlight for me was
[Show spoiler]the swimming pool death scene and the Roger Daltrey Tracheotomy scene.
Recommended.

COTLD is the first in a trilogy of flicks from Italian cult director Lucio Fulci The other two films being The Beyond (1980) and The House by the Cemetery (1981). COTLD has its parts but the gore seems to overshadow the fear and suspense. Decent story but this film is not for the squeamish; expect to see ripping flesh, regurgitated guts and lots of maggots. The highlight for me was
[Show spoiler]Giovanni Lombardo Radice's auto-inflating sex doll and of course the scene where he takes an industrial drill bit through the brain.

I more than doubled my horror collection since last Halloween so I can finally participate now that I have almost 50. A few days ago I made a list of all of them and wanted to work out a schedule where I could watch them all during october.

1 per day, 2 per fri, sat and sun. Halloween 1 - 3 on oct 30 and a universal monster marathon on oct 31.

but with all the football in October and the baseball playoffs, plus movies I might add between now and then, not to mention tv specials like the simpsons and Charlie brown, it isn't going to happen. id probably burn out on them about half way through anyway. so im just going to try and meet the 1 per day challenge.

I did the October only Marathon last year and it just wasn't as enjoyable being pressed for time. The prior two years and again this year I started in Mid September to give myself 6 weeks to easily accommodate 31 film selections and all the bonus tv specials I want.

House (1986) -

Always been a huge fan of this film. I love horror/comedies and 80's movies (meaning that the movie in question couldn't have possibly been made in any other era). Also a big fan of practical special fx. This movie excels at all 3 of those thing . Like that the star, William Katt, doesn't come across as your typical horror fim star and is just an everyman/average joe. Plus Norm from Cheers is in it. Has an Evil Dead movies vibe, maybe just not as twisted. Really fun flick. Highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

a guilty pleasure for sure-- cheesy, not particularly well acted but fun anyway with the never to be seen again casting of Linda Blair and David Hasselhoff!!
Sickening gore effects, one of the worst child actors of all time, a nonsensical plot, and some occasional creepy imagery... this packs a lot into it's relatively short running time!

a misfire from beginning to end... this one can't even make a little girl ghost look creepy (something that's always scared me). Uneventful, silly, a weak ending.. nothing really works here.

Just watched The Task, it's pretty rubbish focusing too much on comedy but man that ending was absolutely nuts. Almost makes it all worth it.

I started my Halloween horror marathon last night with the first two Wrong Turn films. I've always enjoyed part two more than the original but the rest of the series is garbage in my opinion. That being said, I'll be watching parts 3 and 4 this evening lol

I started things off in September! too many films to get through (around 70)

1. Dawn of the Dead (1979) - had never seen it before, did not hold up for me, gore effects (barely were there) were lame, and fakey and was a snoozefest and a bit of a jokey comedy film, perhaps expectations were too high.

2. Bubba Ho-Tep - I love Bruce Campbell, this one didnt know quite what it was, a horror? a feel good? a comedy? It was slow in bits and had good ideas that were kind of wasted.

3. Pitch Black - turned it off. what a disaster. Syfy tv movie.

4. Brotherhoood of the Wolf - overly long, predictable.

5. Friday the 13th: Part II - one of my top Friday films.

6. Friday the 13th: Part III - my all time fav F13th, awesome

7. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter -

8. Friday the 13th: Part V A New Beginning - better than people give it credit for, better than the later titles for sure.

9. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives - pure comedy

10. Phantasm -absolute classic.

11. Near Dark -very cool film, better than Lost Boys, great cast

12. Friday the 13th (2009) REMAKE-

13. The Beyond - Lucio Fulci masterpiece, all over the place

14. Let the Right One In -moody, atmospheric, beautiful film almost more of a love story than horror, low re-watch factor however

6. Deranged (1974) (Blu Ray)
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) (Blu Ray)

One of my personal favorites. The one that started all the Jason spin offs. The Highlight for me was
[Show spoiler]Alice being pulled under the water towards the end, the most memorable scene in the movie when I first saw this gem at the drive-in. Was not expecting that

Based on the real life sicko Ed Gein from Plainfield, WI. This guy also inspired Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) and Tobe Hoopers The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). Sick little film with some good effects and gore by Tom Savini. The highlight for me was
[Show spoiler]when the barmaid walks into the room with the corpses situated in the chairs and suddenly one of them moves, it's him wearing the human skin of one of his victims

TCM was the movie that solidified horror as my favorite genre. It is my favorite horror film of all time. This movie terrified me as a child, it gave me nightmares, no other horror movie has ever given me nightmares. The highlight for me is
[Show spoiler]when Pam is chased down the hall, busts out the screen door and is grabbed from behind by Leatherface and carried to his butcher room and hung on the meathook, classic!

The Mephisto Waltz (1971) - A moody / atmospheric occult thriller that perfectly sets the tone for my Halloween film festival.

My wife and I watched The Blind Dead Collection over the weekend:

1. Tombs of The Blind Dead 1/2, Lots of atmosphere and chills.
2. Return of The Evil Dead ,
My favorite of the quartet
3. The Ghost Galleon 1/2, watchable but the weak link in the series
4. Night of The Seagulls 1/2, As good as the first with some great eerie shots of the knights on horseback riding on the beach.

This is an interesting series, with some good ideas that probably were not seen to their potential due to budget constraints.
