Some people - especially those who never actually read the novel - think of Lolita as a piece of fiction that endorses or make apologies for pedophilia. It's stupid, I know. It's actually a deeply haunting tale of a man who never managed to cope with the loss of his adolescent love. Therefore he searches for a similar and forbidden love as a middle aged man, which makes us question ourselves and our own secret desires in life.

I guess Breakfast at Tiffany's would be mine for the Mr Yunioshi stuff, which I also hate but the rest of it is wonderful.

I don't have any particularly controversial films in my top ten. Rosemary's Baby probably comes closest, just because its director is controversial. Got quite a few controversial films in my top 100 though.

i never really enjoy Nic Cage anyway, but i still think this is a solid effort for a major Hollywood movie.

I re-watched it a couple of weeks ago and thought it held up fine. I also like the fact that they filmed the scene at the end in the house near me.

Blue Velvet and A Clockwork Orange are in my top six. After that I’m not sure anything in my top 50 would be controversial. Although it’s difficult to be sure...

Here’s two conversation starters, or enders for some.
Controversy abounds in both films.

The song of the south.
The Exorcist.

Not a top 10 of mine (SOTS), but controversial nonetheless.

For me it's The Professional. I don't really have a top 10 (more like a top 5) but this one is VERY high up there for me.

I place movies into two different categories: Movies, and Cinematic Experiences (think "In the Mood for Love" for Cinematic). I consider The Professional a cinematic experience, almost a masterpiece, but I am not blind to the insinuations of pedophilia, and the director has plenty of controversy as well.

But it's a thread of most controversial film in your top 10 lol

Mine's Battle Royale.

I agree..My top 10 favorite movies aren't the 10 best movies I've seen. Just the 10 movies I love the most.

Exactly. My top 5 does not contain what anyone would consider "amazing" movies. Just what I love the most.

Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ" is one of the most controversial films ever made.

It incited worldwide picketing/protests everywhere it was shown, and was banned in many places back then.

My brother and I broke through picket lines to see it, and got patted down by police going in. Armed security guards in the cinema, and police outside. Protesters everywhere, media and cops everywhere. Never experienced anything like it before or since going to a film.

It's one of my favorites ever. I've seen it dozens of times. Definitely in my personal Top 10.
