Definitely. I have 0 interest in special features - I only care about the PQ/sound/color of the film itself, and THAT'S IT.

I don't even have enough time to watch all of the films I have. So, when I do watch a film on Blu the only thing I want to see afterwards is the trailer (if it's available). If it's not available, no biggie - I'll just watch the trailer online.

For example, the William Friedkin masterpiece Sorcerer finally came out on Blu in 2014 (after being held up in limbo for years). The Blu is magnificent - great PQ, sound, etc. However, there are no special features - not even the trailer. And, I could care less.

The "digital" version is also lower quality.

Things have changed from two years ago; they sell 4K Blu-rays now with no special features.
But they charge you more by including the same movie in low def (1080p Blu) which can accomodate a bunch of special features. ...Very clever the way they do business nowadays. And to help the sales even more they killed 3D and made Dolby Atmos audio an exclusive of 4K UHD! Talk about extreme cleverness. They even changed the color of the plastic case, from blue to black...as if they wanted to emphasize the darker blacks of the 4K discs...like the space of the galaxy from Star War flicks. Now, that's another clever stuffess ... all that blues.

Special features? With so many films now, there's just no time to waste on extra features, or we'd miss too many films till we die. That's my way of thinking in the year 2018 @ the edge of 8K and HDR10+. ...Dolby Vision ... all that jazz.

Darker blacks on 4K discs? Is that like demonic black?

Black is black whether it's on a DVD, Blu-Ray or UHD Blu-Ray. You could of course say a particular TV has a darker rendition of black than another, as in the case of OLED.

It just depends:

Is there a version with loads of special features that is also cheap? Is it an older catalog title like 80's comedy B movie (Like The Money Pit for example)? If it is, then I can accept no bonus features.

I always keep a look out for the best available version of a movie I want. Special features are good to have, but not if A/V is severely compromised or the edition is too pricey for me. I initially got into blu-ray because studios were restricting bonus features to the BD version (like Star Trek), but I won't do stuff like go after retailer exclusives or pay large amounts on ebay for some OOP limited edition just for extras.

Also extras become more important if the movie is relatively old and there is some value in retrospective interviews or archival bonus content. With recent films I'm not too interested in what is basically a bunch of people being complimentary to each other, and green screen work is less interesting to watch than the making of in-camera VFX.

The main feature presentation is most important but I also savour the supplements. They add to the experience.

Sometimes the bonus material can overshadow a film. I own the AvP:R Blu-ray - an overly dark, sh*tty film - but with very good bonus features.
